Great thread. A good friend just sent me this - found it inspiring. I'd say more for the Ladies but I could practice a few of these suggestions.

by Jan Michelsen...

"In this special moment in life...
Think freely. Practice patience.
Smile often. Savor special moments.
Live God's message. Make new friends.
Rediscover old ones.
Tell those you love that you do.
Feel deeply. Forget trouble.
Forgive an enemy. Let go of hurt.
Hope.
Grow. Be crazy.
Count your blessings.
Observe miracles. Make them happen.
Discard worry.
Give. Give in.
Trust enough to take.
Keep a promise.
Look for the moon. Gaze at stars.
See beauty everywhere. It's there.
Work hard. Be wise.
Try to understand.
Take time for people.
Make time for yourself.
Laugh heartily. Spread joy.
Take a chance.
Reach out. Let someone in.
Try something new.
Slow down. Be soft sometimes.
Believe in yourself.
Trust others.
See a sunrise. Listen to the rain.
Reminisce. Cry when you need to.
Trust life. Have faith.
Enjoy wonder. Comfort a friend.
Have good ideas.
Make some mistakes. Learn from them.
Celebrate life."

SECRET TO HAPPINESS

The secret to happiness and well-being is no mystery. All it takes is the ability to do the following:
Forget
Apologize.
Admit errors.
Avoid mistakes.
Listen to advice.
Keep your temper.
Shoulder the blame.
Make the best of things.
Maintain high standards.
Think first and act accordingly.
Put the needs of others before your own.
Forgive.
Seem like a tall order? Then try
slipping as many of these "secrets to
happiness" into your day as possible.
You'll soon be rewarded with a more
positive outlook on life.

LISTEN

When I ask you to listen to me and you start giving advice, you have not done what I ask.

When I ask you to listen to me and you begin to tell me why I should not feel that way, you have trapped my feelings.

When I ask you to listen to me and you feel you have to do something to solve my problem, you have failed me, strange as that may seem.

Listen.

All I ask is that you listen.

Not talk or do ... just listen and hear me.

I can do for myself. I am not helpless. Maybe discouraged and faltering, but not helpless.

When you do something for me that I can do for myself, you contribute to my fear and weakness.

But when you accept as a simple fact that I do feel what I feel, no matter how irrational, then I can quit trying to convince you and get about the business of understanding what's behind this irrational feeling and when it's clear, the answers are obvious and I don't need advice.

Irrational feelings make sense when we understand them.
Perhaps that is why prayer works sometimes for some people, because God is mute and doesn't give advice or try to fix things.
He just listens and lets you work it out for yourself.

So please listen and just hear me.

And if you want to talk, wait a minute for you turn and I'll listen to you.

YOU HAVE A CHOICE

Every day you make literally hundreds of choices, consciously and unconsciously. One of those choices is your attitude. What was your attitude like when you woke up? What is it like now?

When you're aware of how your attitude affects your well-being, choices are so much easier to make. With this new found knowledge, you can literally change whatever you can dream of.

You deserve a great life, happiness and self-fulfillment. Choose today to make it that way!

CLAIM YOUR PERSONAL POWER

When you are in touch with your personal power, you're confident, decisive, focused, purposeful, energetic and empowered.

Sounds great, but truthfully how often do you feel like this? Personal power or lack of it is created by you and you alone. You decrease your power by blaming others or external forces for your misfortunes. Why give up what is rightfully yours?

Claim your personal power today! Try not to blame outside forces for disappointments. Don't wait for others to change their behavior, instead choose to change your response.

Stand strong and refuse to be a victim. You can do it!

This is something you not only can have, you can multiply with the right approach.

Appreciate your friends, and new friends will arrive. Look for joy each day, and you'll find more. Feel happy about all you have in life, and you'll find your happiness grows.

Live this way and you'll end up with a wealth of prosperity that all the money in the world can't buy!

Here's one for you guys..

There is no force more potent than love.
Take away love and your world is a tomb.
Your life echoes emptiness without love.
With it, your life will vibrate with warmth and meaning.
Even during hardship, love will shine through.

As you look back upon the events in your life
you will find that the moments that stand out,
the moments when you have really lived,
are the moments when you have done things in a spirit of love.

If you have it, you don't need to have anything else,
and if you don't have it,
it doesn't matter what else you have.

Therefore, search for love.
Once you have learned to love,
you will have learned to live.

Love is the most important ingredient to your success.

Great quote. And when you find it and she/he can't come through?

Someone wrote this about losing love.....

Realize that part of what hurts is not reality. It's the pain of losing the picture you've kept creating in your own mind of how wonderful things would be if she'd been ready. ;)

Good morning Art. Glad you really like these :) I have been getting emailed to me daily for a few years now from Beliefnet Daily Inspiration. (I just had tried posting the address that they have posted when I receive them, but it wasn't coming up right. I think tho if you just do a search for it, it should come up) I also get emailed to me daily BeliefNet Horoscope. I love the both of them. If you can, check them out sometime! What's cool also is everything that comes for reading material on the BeliefNet Inspiration one. Let me know what you think if you check it out sometime, ok?
Also, a few years ago for Christmas, my daughter (knowing how much I love this inspirational stuff!) gave me a little book called "100 Small Comforts~Wise and Witty Words to Lift the Spirit".
Hope you have a great day!

Wow, BlackKnight...thank you also for writing that...Sorry to continue adding onto this one, which makes our quoting here long, but I wanted to add to what you also wrote, BlackKnight.
A friend had sent this to me & I have it posted in my bathroom where I see it every day...

PRESERVE YOUR CONFIDENCE

When you use others as your measuring stick, you usually come up short. You convince yourself you're not as clever, beautiful, thin or talented.

Lasting satisfaction and confidence comes from appreciating yourself and all that you have to offer. Equating yourself with others eats away at your confidence and leaves you feeling inferior.

Remind yourself of these simple truths. You are a unique and special person, exactly as you are. Your loved ones love you for whom you are. You're one-of-a-kind and you're irreplaceable.

With convictions such as these, your confidence is impermeable, just as it should be.

Today's Affirmation: I am a confident woman.

LET NATURE PERFORM ITS MAGIC

There are times when we feel pressured by life. Deadlines are looming, household appliances suddenly break, we're sleep deprived, or people put unexpected pressures on us. We feel temporarily overwhelmed. We desperately tread water, yet the waves come in relentlessly.

It's time for a mental break!

When your mind is racing, or you're close to tears with tiredness and frustration, you need to go within and listen to your inner wisdom. To get in touch with your inner self, seek nature.

Leave the mess that is strewn across the livingroom floor, walk away from the computer and its ever-amassing emails. Go outside. Do nothing. Consciously become aware of your senses. Listen to the noises around you, feel the surface you are sitting, standing, or lying on, smell the scents and aromas around you, see dispassionately what is before you. Escaping into your primary senses temporarily stops thinking and eases stress.

Leave your inner chaos behind and experience the magic of nature today.

Today's Affirmation: I seek nature to ease my stress.

This is one of many that "got me" today...

Today is a day to believe, to believe in yourself and to believe in the help that is there for you, surrounding you ever and always, a warm mantle of love and caring for you to wear.

And the best way to access this help is simply to be. To be in now, this moment, relaxed and alert, full of faith and love, ready to respond to what life has to offer. Sometimes it will offer challenges, true, but you are strong and capable and can meet them with courage. And again, you are surrounded by help. You are guided and loved; you are watched over always. Relax into this belief. Know that you are never alone.

Quiet your mind, so that you are dealing with life as it is, not as you had hoped it would be or as you dread it being. Do not allow your mind to run little movies, playing over and over, about what might happen or what went before.

Right now is the only reality. Right now is the only place of power where you may act and effect change. Now is all there is.

And when you are completely centered within now, open to the love and light that surround you. Allow yourself to know and feel what is there for you. Shine out with faith. Faith is the answer.

Be playful. Know that it's going to be alright no matter what.

Have as much fun as you can. Be as easy as you can. Don't take anything very seriously, because everything blows over, good and bad. You can't stand still. So nothing lasts very long. The best of experiences you must move beyond, and the worst of experiences you must move beyond. Don't make where you are too big of a deal.

Let it be what it is. It's a moment in time where you have the choice to feel good or feel bad. That's all that it ever is.

YOUR EMOTIONS ARE YOUR MESSENGERS

To be true to yourself and to those around you, it's a must to learn to manage your emotions. It is a critical step toward living a happy, successful, and fulfilled life. This doesn't mean that you control them by ignoring them or repressing them, it simply means listening to them. What are they telling you?

When you let your emotions control you, you miss the message that they carry. When you ignore them for fear of what they might cause you to do or feel, they simply return as anger later.

Observe your self-talk as your emotions peak and fall. Tune in and identify any judgments you might have about the way you feel. These thoughts translate into what you believe to be true about yourself. They can be accurate or untrue and damaging. You decide if change is in order.

Today's Affirmation: I am in touch with my emotions and my reacations toward them.

THE POWER OF ENTHUSIASM WORKS LIKE A MAGNET

The more excited you are about accomplishing something important to you, the more excited others will be about helping out. Enthusiastic emotions are contagious.

Many great women committed to worthy causes are full of enthusiasm. Their infectious excitement naturally attracts the help and support of others.

The more passion you have for your life and activities, the more charisma and enthusiasm you will communicate. These two traits draw people to you like magnets.

Use the power of your enthusiasm and watch how effortlessly you attract the support or others into your life.

GIVE YOURSELF PRAISE

Why do we find it so hard to praise ourselves when we achieve something? It doesn't seem to matter whether our accomplishments are small or sensational. Giving ourselves a pat on the back for a job well done, can be the emotional equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest!

Perhaps you were trained to be modest; perhaps, you were told you were hopeless and didn't learn to believe in yourself. Perhaps your past achievements were simply ignored by parents, peers or mentors. Or, maybe you've simply given up on expecting accolades.

We often freely praise others for their achievements yet withhold it from ourselves. But self-praise is important - more important than praise from others. Others are not always dependable. But, you can always count on yourself.

Today, begin your journey of self-commendation. Praise yourself for each achievement, however insignificant you may think it is. Watch yourself achieving as you go about your day. And give yourself a pat on the back - you deserve it!

TAKE CHARGE OF CHAOS

Do you sometimes feel like you're living a life of chaos; chasing your tail with no relief in sight?

Are you in a state where everything takes longer and requires more effort than you thought? Do you want to be organized, but haven't got the time to clear up the mess? Are the words "free time" not in your vocabulary?

Stop for a moment and consider living by the motto, "Don't put off till tomorrow what can be done today."

If you start today by organizing your desk, your closet, your garage, anything that's in chaos, the reward is less time spent finding things, less frustration and less stress.

With just a couple of changes, you'll feel in control and recoup lost time and energy. Chaos will start to subside and ultimately you'll have time for the things you enjoy. Try it!

STAR STUFF

Astronomer Carl Sagan said that we're all made of "star-stuff." Whatever it is that we are made of, we are certainly made of the same "stuff" - the same atoms, molecules and cells. We are much more alike than we realize.

Remembering this can help calm you, center you, and give you a sense of connectedness - both with the universe and with others.

Try this experiment today. With each person that you pass, become aware that the "stuff" - the essence - what's inside you is inside them. Check out the person in the car coming toward you. You both share the same essential life essence. The people on the subway, on the buss, at your office - all are made of the same unique, special, and mysterious "stuff" as you.

After a day of literally "connecting" in your mind with every person you encounter, you will find your mood is buoyant. You will feel part of a bigger world than the one you normally inhabit. Seeing yourself in others and others in you, brings calmness, peace and an incredible sense of belonging.

There is nothing more certain in our lives than change. Yet many of us fear change and make elaborate plans to avoid it. We fear the new and find comfort in the stability of the known and familiar.

But to grow, you need to not only accept change, but to embrace it, joyfully. Think of a flowing stream as representing your life. In some places it flows smoothly, with barely a ripple as it travels on its journey. At other places along the way, obstacles create great turbulence; the water roars and thunders as it crashes through gorges and down steep falls. These represent both the easy and difficult times your experience.

Yet, a stream may have a place where the water becomes banked up, stagnant, unhealthy. Here, nothing thrives and nothing changes.

Welcome the rushing waters of change into your life, for change means growth, spiritual health and self-realization. Embrace each new direction you encounter with courage and enthusiasm. It's the key to a happier you.

It's ok, Art, that you still read the Meditations for Women! lol I'm just posting where I got the reading from. Even though it says for women, I believe that a lot of what they are saying pertains for all of us. ;)
And isn't that the truth with how many people choose to be negative & look at the glass half empty instead of half full. You know...I may have a down day here or there...who doesn't...But...it is my choice to pick myself up & make my day the way I choose to want my day to be. How does the saying go...something like yesterday is over with, tomorrow hasn't happened yet, so enjoy today because today is the present. And you know what? Today, being the present, is a gift each of us gets from God & for us to choose to make the best of His gift. There are no guarantees that we'll have a tomorrow.
Have a great day!
Peace

OUR FRIENDSHIPS MIRROR OURSELVES

You can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends. So, how helpful are your friends to self-growth?

Are they supportive, encouraging you to strive and achieve? Do they provide a sanctuary of love and warmth when the world becomes cold and bitter? Do you love them with all your heart and is that love reciprocated?

Or are your "friends" not really friends at all? Is there a tinge of jealously when you succeed? In hard times are they unavailable, only to reappear once the crisis is past? Do they spend their time with you talking in negative ways about others?

If your friendship experience is the former, then you are indeed blessed. If it is the latter, now is the time to take stock of the negativity that you are allowing into your life.

Release your relationships with negative, draining people. Choose friends wisely and your life will be filled with love.

TODAY

Today I will delete from my diary two days: yesterday and tomorrow

Yesterday was to learn and tomorrow will be the consequence of what I can do today.

Today I will face life with the conviction that this day will not ever return.

Today is the last opportunity I have to live intensely,
as no one can assure me that I will see tomorrow's sunrise.

Today I will be brave enough not to let any opportunity pass me by, my only alternative is to succeed.

Today I will invest my most valuable resource: my time, in the most transcendental work: my life;

I will spend each minute passionately to make of today a different and unique day in my life.

Today I will defy every obstacle that appears on my way trusting I will succeed.

Today I will resist pessimism and will conquer the world with a smile, with the positive attitude of expecting always the best.

Today I will make of every ordinary task a sublime expression.

Today I will have my feet on the ground understanding reality and the stars' gaze to invent my future.

Today I will take the time to be happy and will leave my footprints and my presence in the hearts of others.

Today I invite you to begin a new season where we can dream
that everything we undertake is possible and we fulfill it, with joy and dignity.

Have a good day and a better one tomorrow!

CLEAN YOUR SPIRIT

When our mothers told us to clean our rooms, they were unwittingly giving us a gift that would have lasting repercussions. Although we grumbled when asked for the umpteenth time to clear the mess, we were actually doing more than physically cleaning our rooms. We were cleaning our spirits as well.

There is a spiritual side to everything - even household chores. Cluttered rooms are often indicative of a cluttered mind. Messy houses may point to messy lives. If you are feeling overwhelmed by life, go clean a closet. It's the quickest and cheapest therapy for regaining a sense of control and a feeling of accomplishment.

From that platform of confidence, you can then go on to solve the more difficuilt aspects of your life, knowing that you have solidarity and order backing you up.

Cleaning a closet, a room, or an entire house can give you a real sense of power. It's like saying to the universe: "My house is in order!"

BREATHE LIKE A BABY

When we are stressed, we often breathe from the upper chest instead of down into our lower lungs. Take note of your breathing. If your shoulders rise and fall, then you are a shallow breather. This way of breathing spells "stress."

Lie down and place your hand on your belly. Breathe in so that you can feel your belly rise and fall. This is the way a baby breathes.

When women are pregnant, they often instinctively place their hand on their belly. It is an age-old behavior for protecting the infant within. Use the same technique to protect your own inner child. Guard the peace and serenity of your inner child as you would a real baby.

By placing your hand on your belly at regular intervals during the day, you will encourage better breathing habits and release your stress.

RELEASE WHAT NEEDS TO BE FREE

It's really hard to let go - especially for us women.

For many women, it is almost instinctive to cling. Whether it's a love letter, a secure job, a relationship or a dear friend - holding on to what is no longer yours only causes pain.

When you let go of old things, you pave the way for new things - experiences that are perhaps more exciting, adventurous or wholesome. When you let go of the past, you free yourself. You are letting go of that which is rotting and decaying. You are then ready to embrace the fresh, unopened buds of change.

Have the courage to let go. When you relinquish the past, your future embraces you.

You're not an old fart, Wrecker...you're only how many years older than me? ;) Just teasin with ya...And I agree with you...many things in the past are good to hold onto & remember. It's good to hold onto memories. And I believe that everything that has happened in one's life is what has brought us to be who we are today. Good & bad & Ugly (wasn't that kind of a Clint Eastwood Movie title?) But I also believe that sometimes when it's hard to let go when something or someone is no longer in your life...that in order to move forward, one needs to tuck away those memories to go back to & remember & never forget or...maybe try to forget...know that it's over...& try to move on to bring Peace to ones heart & soul. But that is just speaking for myself & how I have had to learn to deal with things in my life. In order for me to move on & to grow...& have peace...I guess when I got this meditation emailed me today, I was thinking of Kitten. I was thinking of her saying...come on now Smiles...put that smile back into your heart & on your face. Remember the good times we had...& continue to have good times...I know that Kitten wouldn't want me to be crying...
Those are just my thoughts though...

TAKE A CHANCE

Ever felt embarrassed after someone rebuffed your invitation to go for coffee? Ever felt hurt when you opened yourself up to another person and they didn't react the way that you had hoped? Ever felt scared for any number of reasons?

Congratulations! You're alive. And growing, too! If we never take a chance, if we never stretch ourselves, there are two things that we can be sure of. One is that we will never feel hurt or embarrassed or scared. The other is that we will stagnate. Safe in our comfort zone, we will find in time that that comfort zone has become a prison. We have dealt ourselves a life sentence of "safety." Yet safety equals stagnation.

Be embarrassed! Be hurt! Be frightened! The rewards of growth and change are permanently rewarding. Slowly, through taking chances on people and situations, we mold ourselves into the person we want to be. We grow. We learn. We change for the better. The end result outweighs the temporary pain encountered on the journey.

Take a chance on life today.

HAPPINESS IS NOT THE DESTINATION

Many women slog for a lifetime looking for happiness. They feel guilty to do the things they like. So, they take care of their jobs, their families, their children and their pets thinking that the time for happiness will come later. In the end, they discover that it doesn't.

Believe that you DESERVE to be happy right now!

You know those early hours in the morning when the house is quiet and the mist is floating outside the window? THAT is happiness. Remember how it felt to hold your baby for the first time? THAT is happiness. Remember how you felt when you met what seemed like an impossible goal? THAT is happiness.

Do not defer your happiness to a later date. Find joy in what you do every day.

You deserve all the happiness you can get!

There will be days when you'll end up having a melt down, freakin out, and going into an emotional tailspin. It's completely normal. The key is to let it happen.

What's important is, once it's over, you need to pick up the pieces and regain your composure. This is your responsibility. It's crucial not to beat yourself up because you lost control. Remember a fall out doesn't mean failure.

Expect bad days every once in a while. These days may scare and upset you, but realize they are all part of life.

THE FEWER RULES THE BETTER

When it comes to the rules you have about how life should be or how other people should behave, the less you have the easier it is to be happy. Why? Because, when you cease to impose unrealistic expectations on people and on life, you not only reduce the likelihood of disappointment, you also let go of unnecessary stresses and false demands.

Instead of always trying to channel life, ease up and go with the flow. Enjoy what comes your way. Try your hardest to accept people as they are and try not to force them into your own mold - celebrate their individual differences.

Greet life's surprises with joy and excitement, and you'll end up with a more fulfilling life than was ever written in the rules!

Well, I don't have a partner, but even if I did, I wouldn't expect him to fulfill all my needs. I truly am blessed with many wonderful friends that help round out my being of who I am!

DON'T EXPECT YOUR PARTNER TO FULFILL ALL YOUR NEEDS

It's unfair to expect your partner to be able and willing to render all your needs, no one person can do that. Though it may feel easy and less risky, it's unfair.

Reach out in earnest to others in your life for fulfillment. You'll probably find that different friends and family members are more than willing to share their expertise.

One may have a great sense of humor, another a great listener and another a financial whiz. When you have many friends and relatives in your network, you take the pressure off your partner and ultimately you both are happier.

BUILD AN INTERNAL RETREAT FOR PEACE

Use your imagination to build a personal sanctuary. A place you can go for centering. A hideaway to refocus your attention and attitude.

Begin by imagining a favorite place, a relaxing and private place where you can enjoy being alone. Perhaps it's a tropical beach, a bench in the back yard or even a luxurious hotel room. Place yourself in this place and notice how you feel. Are you relaxed, calmer and more secure? Let these feelings sink into your core and feel the calm relaxing peace of your solitude.

Your retreat is always there for you. If you're feeling tired, stressed or unable to cope, use your mind's eye to go to your special place.

YOUR BELIEFS DETERMINE YOUR PROSPERITY

Women who believe money is the only measure of prosperity are likely to spend their lives falling short. Conversely, those who see prosperity in terms of wealth of happiness, tend to believe their lives are full of riches, which in itself attracts more and more.

Today, take stock of what you have in your life. Instead of focusing on what you don't have, put your attention to the rewards you have already received and those that are all around you waiting to be appreciated.

Reflect on your loved ones, your surroundings and your talents - for you are prosperous indeed.

WOMEN WITH HIGH SELF ESTEEM FEEL TERRIFIC ABOUT THEMSELVES

Your self esteem is probably the most important part of your personality. It dictates your performance in almost everything you do. The amount of self esteem you have determines your levels of vitality, enthusiasm and attraction.

To be your best and to feel amazing, you should always be in a state of self esteem building and maintenance. Just as you take responsibility for your level of physical fitness, you need to take responsibility for your self esteem.

Self esteem building is not easy. It takes effort and perseverance, but, if you're willing to make the effort, you'll be rewarded with a gracious life.

I have one CD of hers. I'm not sure what exactly prompted me to buy it. I must have heard a song I liked. I'm so terrible when it comes to remembering names and titles of songs.

I read that quote on the wall of a rest room in a biker bar in NH. Of course, I can't remember the name of that place either, big surprise  , but the entire ladies room is painted with quotes everywhere. It's so cool and there are many that I liked, but that one stood out amongst the rest.

I think we all compromise ourselves whether we are conscious of it or not. But I like the latter part of the quote best, "you're all you got". I think we are led to believe we HAVE, or own people in our lives, like our spouses and kids and such. But with everything I have been through in my life, I have come to realize I don't think that's true. We're all alone (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). We came into this world alone and that's how we'll leave. So, we best take darn good care of ourselves, which includes loving ourselves like no other can....kinda fits in with your self esteem building post above.

Ok, I'm rambling on now....time to go. ^_^

Like you have said before BB, how can we love someone else intil we truely love ourself??

It took me a long time to learn this but now that I have it is so true:

Intil a person learns that its not up to someone else to fix them or provide them with their happiness, they can not truely love. Don't look for someone else to fix you cause only you can truely fix yourself.

:
Intil a person learns that its not up to someone else to fix them or provide them with their happiness, they can not truely love. Don't look for someone else to fix you cause only you can truely fix yourself.

Now this is so true!
I'll never forget what it felt like in Feb. after seeing my husband come out of surgery. It's so hard to describe what he was like. Unresponsive is close, and legs and arms flailing all over the place paints an accurate picture. The doctors were suprised he was in that state, for as long as he was and didn't offer much comfort. The cash he left us ran out (and my name wasn't on any of the bank accounts) as he laid in a hospital bed 70 minutes away from our home. I had no idea how I was going to take care of my kids, keep this home or anything else for that matter.
Life, as I knew it, had changed and for how long, who knew. And, it will most likely never be the same, cuz he won't ever be the same. Thank God, he has come as far as he has. And thank God, I have close friends that have offered their support, but everyday is a challenge, both emotionally, mentally and sure as hell, financially.

The point I'm trying to make is, what do you do when the world as you know it, collaspes and comes crashing down around you? You have 2 choices really, you go down with it, or you rise above it and realize that you're not really as connected to those things as you may have thought. You are a seperate identity and have the power within to make your own happiness, even when everything around you is bleak. It's up to ourselves and no one else. It's easier to blame others or feel sorry for ourselves, than it is to take the responsibility necessary to live a gratifying life.

Okkkkkkkk, don't know what's gotten into me today, but I'll stop now.

smile, thanks so much for the reminder about how important attitude is.
I think I needed it today.

My sister sent this to me.....

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than education, than money, than circumstances, than failure, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company… a church.. a home… The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes. Author, Chuck Swindoll.

I liked that, BB...interesting that it said basically what the daily quote said today. You know...I remember awhile back I posted something here & I remember one of the members here who is a friend of mine made mention about my happy happy way in a teasing way. I smiled & replied back to her here about would she really like to know how I was feeling for the day? So, I shared how I was really feeling but that I didn't want to share it here & basically bring others down. I basically was choosing to try & change my attitude & make for a better day no matter how crappy I was feeling. It's all about attitude. And believe you me...I do have my days but I really try to keep positive for the most part.
When my Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in 7/02 at age 82, it was rough. (Mom passed away 3/4/03) I went with her just about to every radiation & chemo appt. & did a lot of stuff for her at home & outside of the home. It was tough trying to keep a positive attitude around her & to keep her spirits up but I did it for her & other cancer patients at the hospital. A lot of times I would just take a deep breath...put on my happy face...& get ready to greet them all. Hey, I wasn't the one going through the cancer treatments...they were... I would print out a lot of inspirational things regarding cancer & I talked with these people & gave lots of hugs. When you're there so much it's like you all become one big family & you look forward to seeing each other again. That probably sounds weird in a way, but that's how it felt...My Mom's Oncologist even gave my Mom a pin to wear & she wore it every day "I Believe In Hope". Well one night after I brought her home from an appt., I had to have a tough love talk with her because she was totally having a Pity Party for herself. I got down on my knees by her chair & just held her & I told her that I couldn't even imagine what she was dealing with or going through. But, I then told her that she needed to get a positive attitude back because the "C" word doesn't like positive attitudes. That nasty "C" word thrives on negativity. Well shortly after that my Mom wanted new sheets for her bed & she told me to go to Wal-Mart & buy some pretty floral ones. So I said, ok Mom...Well...since when have I ever listened! lol So here I was looking for floral sheets when there they were...bright happy yellow smiley face sheets. Well, out the window of ideas for buying the floral sheets...my Mom was getting these bright yellow smiley face sheets! So, I get back to her apt. & I said Mom? I got your sheets & they aren't floral ones. The look on her face when I said that! heehee! (warm smile here...memories of my Mom...) So I bring out these bright yellow smiley face sheets & the look on her face was priceless! heehee!! She says, Carla Lynn! (heehee!) I said...what...? Mom...since when have I ever listened! lol When I saw these sheets, they said...buy me buy me! And you know why Mom? Because now this way you can go to bed with a good attitude & wake up with a good attitude! Mom just smiled...And you know what else? Every week when I did Mom's laundry for her? She insisted that these sheets get washed every week & get put back on that bed of hers. Yeppers! They were her favorites. And she would tell her friends also what I did for her...
Wow...I sure was long winded here! But when I read what you wrote, BB, both of these stories popped into my mind & I wanted to share...
I wish for you a happy & peaceful day...and remember to smile... ;) Hugs...

Wow!!!! BB and Smile, some precious thoughts and memories there and oh so true. Life is what we make it and I too agree we are in control of how it turns out. Lots of things have happened this year that have really made me stop and think about life and getting priorities straight.....Know I want to live each day to the fullest, but most importantly let anyone I love and care about know how I feel every day, whether it be a phone call, text message or email.....and along the way, if I can make new friends, hey I'm blessed.....I truly believe to find happiness with that one special person you gotta feel good about yourself first so that when it does happen, you're ready for it. It's took me a long time to get here, lots of hills and valleys to climb, raising teenaged girls, but hell I'm ready so whenever he's ready to find me, HERE I AM!!! lol

BB, haven't chatted with you any yet, but my best to you and your husband for all you've been through and his recovery.

Smile, g/f I've told you this before but so many days you have a way of just knowing what to say to make it better....for that I'm truly blessed to call you a friend and so looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks in Ohio at the big Labor Day party!!!! Stay sweet girl!!!

I have to tell you a couple of things smile. This morning I was in a funk sort of. Kinda left over from last night I guess. When I read your post about attitude, I immediately went into my files searching for that paragraph I posted, which I remembered seeing in there on Thursday, while visiting my mom. I had posted that my sister sent it to me, but I didn't tell you where she got it. Her son went to the funeral for the mother of a friend of his. I believe, before she died of cancer, she had asked her son to read it and pass it out at her funeral.

I soooo needed to read that today! If it wasn't for you posting that quote, I still may be in a funk. Today, while I was out riding, I was meditating on those words. And feeling the wind in my face and the power of the machine beneath me, was the escape I needed in order to work on that attitude of mine. Oh, what a ride. :D

Thanks for sharing your stories and for sharing your favorite quotes with us...thanks for touching my heart. :)

Thank you Cutie & BB... You know what I was told once upon a time by a friend I met on the other site, BikerKiss? He told me....you know Smiles...you don't know what your inspirational posts or kind words do for a lot of the members here. That just on a day when someone is feeling not so good about stuff...along comes something that you post & you give them hope & you lift their spirits. And you know...I was surprised when he said that to me because all I was doing was sharing words that I so enjoyed & that had touched me at that moment. And since then, I will get emails or notes to me by others saying the same, just as the two of you just have. I find it amazing also how the daily quote a lot of times fits that day just perfect.
But I want to tell you something...I also get so much out of being amongst all of you. Since I joined BK in 1/05, & since then now have joined HCG & HWS? I have not been sorry once that I have. I get so much out of all the friendships I have formed with all of you. So thank you...
Hey Cutie? Just a few more weeks & we will finally meet in person!! :)
And BB? Glad you're out of your funk...Hugs...

I can't tell you how many times I get cheered up in the act of cheering someone else up. I first noticed this in college with my boyfriend Rick. I would be moping around, and then he'd sink down. OPEN TO A LITTLE MIRACLE

A little miracle is a burst of unexpected happiness. It comes out of the blue to delight us with its complete unanticipatedness. Rainbows are little miracles. So is a catch-up call from someone you haven't heard from in years. My coworker Suzanne told me of one she experienced last weekend: "I rode my bike up to the top of the mountain and there, in the field in front of me, were thousands of dragonflies!"
Today, watch for a little miracle. You just never know where it might be.

Yesterday when I was out & about shopping, I was at Wal-Mart & I saw this cool book that I just had to buy. I don't have those "just have to buy" moments real often cuz I hate shopping. It's by Amy Knapp & it's a Family Organizer for July 2006 through December 2007. Ok...so it's only me & DC living in the house & my kiddo is in college but I thought hey, I really like this book & I'm buying it even though I don't have a "family" really living with me. Here's what the book all includes.
*Weekly menu & grocery planning with perforated list.
*Weekly inspirational quotes.
*Complete planning with weekly & monthly grids.
The book is very cool! I have been feeling oh so disorganized & not in control of my life for awhile & I'm not liking it whatsoever. So, yesterday is done & over with...I can't do anything about tomorrow yet cuz it's not here...so today is the beginning of a new start for me & I'm pumped.

So here is their weekly inspirational quote for all of you. :)

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO LET GO OF?

Often we are most unhappy when we are stuck in some outdated mode of being and afraid to let go because we are invested in that old image of ourselves. We are stuck in a job we hate because we're convinced we need the house with the swimming pool. Or the status the job brings socially. Or the image of ourselves as powerful in a particular field. Or we drift along in an unsatisfying marriage because we are afraid to not be in a relationship. We cling to the status quo because the familiar is comfortable.
When we do, however, we forget that we are just as much a part of nature as everything else in the world. And nature has cycles-things are born, blossom, wilt, and die. So do aspects of ourselves. At any given moment, old ways of being may be dying and new ones aching to be born. We interrupt and delay this natural cycle, and cause ourselves to suffer from stagnation, when we cling to something past its time.
Right now, what do you need to let go of? A job that you have outgrown? A habit of relating to others? Negative thinking? Leaving the familiar is scary, but it is also exciting. For now, just notice what you are clinging to that needs to be let go of. As you do, you will signal to yourself that you are ready to embrace the new.

HAPPINESS IS ABUNDANT IN THE JOY OF ACHIEVEMENT

Happiness doesn't come from successfully completing simple or mundane tasks, it comes from completing a task that demands your best efforts.

When you pour your heart and soul into something and you accomplish that something, the afterglow of satisfaction you feel is happiness. It is the thrill of all your efforts and hard work.

Each and every one of us needs to accomplish, achieve and triumph to be happy. Our human spirit requires it. Remember that happiness thrives in activity and accomplishment. Go for it!

BLOW BUBBLES

This requires a bit of money ~ 89 cents or so. Go out and buy an eight-ounce bottle of bubbles, find a small child or receptive adult, a good spot outside, and let yourself go. I guarantee you'll have a good time. Watch how the wind carries them hither and yon. Blow a few on the other person and see if they can catch them.
