Hello everybody,

I am thinking of going to truck driving school, though I only want to drive part time. I work normally as a merchant seaman, and just want some income in between ships.

Are there any truck drivers out there that know if this is possible? Like for instance, just drive contract to contract, maybe 3-4 weeks at a time and then that is it?

I realize I need to get experience first, and I am willing to commit a couple years to learn the ropes.

Thanks for any replies.

There are plenty of companies that are will to train you.
It may take a little looking around but you should be able to find a company willing to hire you part time for the weeks you are looking for.
Or you could try going to the Teamster and get on the call list

You could maybe find someone willing to rent a tractor and trailer for a day but that may not be as easy as it seems.
A lot of the over the road companies will train you but you may have to commit for a certain time period and it will be over the road.

You can try filling out one of these online application and see who picks it up.
