With heartfelt sorrow I regret to inform the membership that a true supporter and mentor of the Coalition has passed away. Tom Kozar left us Sunday October 7th for what we hope is a better place. Tom has long been involved with BCCOM and was instrumental with his input and writing of the brief that was submitted to government regarding No-Fault Insurance and its impact on the motorcyclists of B.C. Tom also helped write the Transferable Plate proposal that was submitted to ICBC and government in the fall of 2003. With Tom’s help we also got motorcycle parking in the City of Burnaby. Tom was always there to volunteer to help out where his skills were needed and they were and still are much appreciated. On a personal note Tom always encouraged me and told me I was capable of achieving anything I set my sights on, goodbye Tom, you’ll be missed. Adele Tompkins, Executive Director

We are in the process of planning a BCCOM meeting on Wednesday, November 7th at 7:00 pm somewhere in the Fraser Valley area (likely Abbotsford). It will be an open forum to discuss BCCOM's plans for next year and to get your input on issues such as graduated licensing, eco-tax incentives for motorcycles, transferable plates, etc. Keep an eye on the website as the details will be posted as soon as we have confirmed a location.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out and braved the rain on the Vancouver Motorcycle Toy Run on October 7th! A lot of people will have a happier Christmas because of your generosity. Also a special thanks to all of the volunteers and, of course, the sponsors who help make this run happen year after year (http://www.toyrun.lmcb.ca/sponsors.html).
Unfortunately, due to the poor weather and the conflicting holiday, our numbers were down significantly this year . The number of toys collected was 1,307 and the monetary donations were approximately $14,000.00 the day of the event, which is less than half of what it normally is. If you were unable to make it to the event but would still like to support the Christmas Bureau you can contact Chris Bayliss, ED, directly at (604) 253-7191 or check them out on-line at http://www.lmcb.ca/

Justin Ball of Redcoat Photo was at the ride taking photos which are now available at www.redcoatphoto.com under "Bike Events photos." Check it out to see if you're up there! Justin is donating 20% of the gross sales from this event to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau.

This year at the intersection of Barnet and Ioco Road in Port Moody the traffic camera was flashing as the bikes rode through the red light. Chris Bayliss, of the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, has discussed this with the Port Moody police department and we do not anticipate having this problem next year. If perchance you do receive a ticket please notify us at (604) 580-0111 or 1-877-580-0111.

If you feel that you could get 100 signatures or more in your community please contact us and we can send you the forms to collect signatures. Thank you for your support! Please note that this petition will not be available to sign on-line as petitions collected in this way do not seem to have the same credibility and impact.

In November of 2003 after presenting a proposal to ICBC, the B.C. Coalition of Motorcyclists and Blair Lekstrom, M.L.A. Peace River South were told that transferable plates for motorcyclists were “doable” and would be available in January 2005. After sending out press releases to that effect the Coalition was then informed that with the take over of the B.C. Utility Commission as the new regulator of ICBC the deal was off.

The Transferable Plate Program consists of strict rules to which motorcyclists must adhere to be eligible, for further info go to www.bccom-bc.com. Over the winter we are going to be pushing very hard to try and make this happen. If you would like to see this program implemented please sign our petition to be presented to the Provincial Government, The Honorable John Les, Solicitor General and Minister of ICBC, and the Insurance Corporation of B.C.
The petition will be available at the Vancouver Motorcycle Show on January 24-27 at the Tradex in Abbotsford. If you are unable to attend the bike show please contact the office for forms as per above.

If you would like to get a head start on next year our 2008 memberships are now available. You can follow this link: http://www.bccom-bc.com/bccom_store/bccom_store.html to join on-line or print of a form to mail in with a cheque. Thank you for your continued support of our efforts!

Damn, what a line-up. I sure wish I could cross the border without hassles.
