Was wondering what kind (if any) of helmet we all wear. I have 5 helmets, ranging from the non DOT skid lid to a full face. I am forcing myself to wear the FF more and more, but was curious as to what ya'll wore.

Yes it is winter and I believe it is time for a helmet thread!!

01-06-2005, 12:45 AM
NXT DOT approved 1/2 helmet for most of the time (http://www.nexlsports.com/) and a Nolan N100 full face flip-up for bad rain or really really cold!

01-06-2005, 12:59 AM
Me too...1/2 helmet, DOT approved...even though you don't need to, here in NH.

and a Nolan N100 full face flip-up for bad rain or really really cold!

TFB, when the hell is it "really, really, cold" in Texas?...you're so full of s@*t! : <_< :P

half helmet DOT. FF at times.

01-06-2005, 01:10 AM
FF for highway trips, 1/2 around town. DOT of course...otherwise, why bother? Plus, with a helmet law here in NE, I think you can get fined for not having a DOT lid.

01-06-2005, 01:24 AM
3/4 DOT

"novelty" skid lid.

01-06-2005, 01:46 AM
1/2 helmet , non DOT.

01-06-2005, 01:55 AM
1/2 helmet DOT for me and the wife.

01-06-2005, 02:00 AM
1/2 helmet DOT.
Promised the kids I'd wear a helmet when they were younger and just got used to this 1/2 helmet. Besides the viser helps to keep the sun out of the eyes

01-06-2005, 02:01 AM
1/2 helmet DOT.In TX you don't have to wear one if you have the right health ins.,which I do,but if you are not wearing one they can pull you over to check. My bike only has a headlight and a taillight,no signals.I don't need to give them any more reasons to pull me over.

1/2 skull cap non dot because of bogus mo law. prob not legal but fuck em, cross the river n to ill suckers off.

01-06-2005, 03:58 AM
3/4 DOT

01-06-2005, 04:51 AM
Snell full face about 99% of the time. DOT 1/2 for a quick ride around the block while testing or drying the bike off after a wash.

01-06-2005, 10:01 AM
Predominantly a full face Arai. Stats say in an unplanned get off that a riders face will hit the ground at least 1.5 times. YIKES !

01-06-2005, 10:58 AM
NXT DOT approved 1/2 helmet for most of the time (http://www.nexlsports.com/) and a Nolan N100 full face flip-up for bad rain or really really cold!
thanks tex i normally wear a non dot half helmet totaly illegal here in uk but going to order one of these now gotta be safe now im getting older

01-06-2005, 11:12 AM
Non DOT beanie. Not leagal here but FUCK EM!!!

01-06-2005, 12:16 PM
Thanks for the link TFB. If they look anything like the beanie, I'm getting one. I hate the mushroom look I get when wearing the DOT half helmet.
My brains tried leaving my head once, I'm like to keep 'em put for a while. :)

01-06-2005, 12:29 PM
havent ever worn one, but going to get one soon.

01-06-2005, 12:42 PM
1/2 DOT. Always wear it. When I'm motoring in SC I'll take it off a bit but for the most part wear it.

01-06-2005, 12:45 PM
DOT 1/2 for me and the hubby.

01-06-2005, 12:46 PM
Usually none but, occationally 1/2 DOT approved.

01-06-2005, 12:49 PM
FF DOT/SNELL - always... would like to get a 1/2 but wife prefers i wear FF. considering how supportive she has been of my riding, it's the least i can do for her and the kids...

01-06-2005, 12:55 PM
I wear several different helnets, 1/2 dot, 3/4 Snell when its really cold. But my fav is http://www.nexlsports.com/ I love it. Its much smaller and lighter that any other DOT approved brands. They are just expensive. I would recomend one. When at Laconis Bike Week I wear none...

01-06-2005, 01:15 PM
3/4 DOT, mandatory in Alabama.

01-06-2005, 01:19 PM
1/2 dot
Thanks for that link V-ROD I will be getting one of those they look awesome, I'm sick of looking like a mushroom, I may be a dickhead but I don't want to look like one

01-06-2005, 02:28 PM
V-Rod - looks like we may have some converts - you and I were attracted to the NXT for the same reason - it's the smallest, thinnest DOT approved helmet out there right now. It's only slightly thicker than the novelty non-DOT beanies and much thinner than the other DOT beanies.

But yes, they are pricey for a beanie - I think I paid about $125 for mine (and at the time I also bought one for the wife! But worth every penny! B)

01-06-2005, 02:58 PM
I would have to say I'm in favor of helmet, I wish my wife would do it more often.

01-06-2005, 03:35 PM
I always wear my HJC full face. When I was about 8 years old, my dad bought us our first dirt bike (a suzuki tm75) and he made it very clear that if we ever rode without a helmet, we would not be riding again. I guess it just stuck cause I never ride without one. That and the fact that I had a wreck at about 40 mph, took a corner too fast on a bullet bike, slid across the sidewalk and grass, my ff helmet had big scrapes across the visor and chin bar, the thought of that being my face against the concrete is always enough to convince me to wear my helmet. (I always wear gloves since that one too, ending up with stitches in my hand from trying to keep myself up off the concrete)

01-07-2005, 02:38 PM
1/2 Helmet DOT. But, I like the NXT 1/2 and will most likely get one before spring.

01-07-2005, 05:22 PM
I have several, but most often wear a DOT 1/2. I also have a FF Arai that is pretty comfortable, but kind of hot. My wife wears the flip up Nolan and she likes it.

01-08-2005, 04:08 AM
1/2 DOT always

01-08-2005, 04:15 AM
I wear a Vega XT 1/2 helmet or Vega Vista Flip Face helmet all of the time -- I practice safe sex.
