    Re: Harley Davidson Safety Recalls

    NHTSA Campaign ID: 04V465000
Component: Fuel System, Gasoline: Storage: Tank Assembly
    Manufacturer: Harley-Davidson
    Year:
    2005 Make:
    Harley-Davidson Model:
    XL Recall Date:
    09/21/2004
Potential Number of Units Affected: 2828
    Manufactured:
    Defect Summary:

On certain motorcycles, a condition occurs that could allow pressure to build up in the fuel tank. On fuel injected vehicles, this condition could cause fuel to spray out unexpectedly when the fuel cap is removed. On carbureted vehicles, excessive fuel could be transferred to the carburetor, which would eventually allow fuel to drip from the air cleaner.

    Consequence Summary:

These situations could cause serious personal injury or create a fire hazard for persons or property on or near the motorcycle.

    Corrective Summary:

Dealers will test each canister for blockage, then replace as necessary. The recall is expected to begin on October 11, 2004. Owners should contact Harley-Davidson at 1-414-343-4056.

New Recall! Just got the news.

OK, 06 Dyna Riders, you should be receiving the papers in the mail about
this soon. HD has a recall in affect concerning the transmission on 06 Dyna models. It seems there's a false neutral light that may come on while the bike is still in gear.

It's a big job for us techs, we have to replace the shifter drum, and shifter pawl, which means removing the inner primary. It affects about 14,000 bikes, and will be costing the company about 5 million bucks! Once again, HD doesn't wait until they're told to recall them, they just do it.

I don't have much more news than that for now, but as I said, you'll be getting the papers in the mail, and we'll be working long hours to get them repaired. I believe the time we're being paid is somewhere around 5 hours, so it isn't a quick fix.

More info as I get it.....
