On an upcoming project I want to use a satin black. Am looking at Dupont Hot Hues - Hot Rod Black.
Anyone have any experience with it?
Thanks

Havnt any expierence with the New Dupont line, but its all good stuff just follow the directions and make sure you get a Tech sheet on the paint. This will explain drying and flash times to avoid Milky areas in the satin finish
Will do, thanks.

Half the people out here us black Rustolium on the rat rods
Never did understand that one, if I wanted that effect I would use the correct paint like Dupont![]()

John Deere Blitz black is very popular with the hot rod crowd . Its the black they use on larger tractors on the fenders . Its an Acrylic enamal and I have heard its made by Shewin Williams and its cheap..
Here is a whole thread on it in the Hottrodders forums http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/john...ht=blitz+black
Isn't Hot Rod Black just Black paint with a Flatening Agent ?
So if theres a brand paint you prefer ..
Just hit it with Flatting agent ...
Some people seem to think its a magic flat paint that you don't
have to clear coat
If you want to clear coat .. Just ad that same agent into the clear
and use a normal Black base coat
I'm guessing here

It would be cheapier to just put flatting agent in the clear coat will still give you a satin finish. A quart of PPG Black will only cost about 32.00 Dupont on the other had proabaly more like $80.00
On the advice of a local builder, I used Mortons Bumper Coat over epoxy primer. After the pinstriping, it was done with matte clear.
Looks pretty damn good!

PPG DP-90 primer! Resists everything..even salt and vomitLOL It's the satin look. Great for muscle car engine compartments.
Some is good, more is better and too much is just enough!
dp-90 alone will not hold up to uv. it will fade unless topcoated with something if exposed to sun....
