New Oil Filter from HD ?

DEFINITIVE5 Filtration System - Wrinkle Black Powder-Coat Finish

Stylized motor oil filtration system featuring integral pressure relief and anti-drain back valves and a replaceable filter element. The removable end cover allows for easy drain, preventing used fluid from draining onto the crankcase. The technologically advanced synthetic filter media provides nominal 5 micron (1 micron = .001mm) filtration which retains dust, soot and other solid matter with low internal pressure drop. The used filter element is more environmentally friendly as it does not contain the metal structure of a spin-on filter.

It's the wave of the future. Less to throw away and supposedly much less mess. I'll decide after I've seen one in action. That money would buy a lot of rags.

There is actually an aftermarket one that's been out for a while. It's a little cheaper, but I've yet made the attempt to purchase.

There is an advantage to this. By cleaning it out, you get to see how much metal is being shaved off the inside of your engine. Just a little more feedback of what's going on inside. Always a good thing.

Spectrochemical oil analysis, I do it once a year as regular maintence on every vehicle I own & in the shop. Let science diagnosis any upcoming failures.

I bought one about 8 months ago. It's pretty simple to use once it's installed. It's nice to be able to see the filter media.
