    Trouble shooting the codes

Can anyone help me with the trouble codes Im getting.I recently changed the cam cover on my 2000 Softail standard.I had to cut and resplice the wire for the cam sensor that goes in on that year bike. Now when I start it up instead of getting 1 "engine" light,I get 2.The first one aleways comes on for a second when you start the bike but thats normal. Now I get a second "engine" light. It goes out just like the second light .On a test ride everything seemed O.K.I found that if I hold the odometer reset button and turn on the run switch( on the tank) a code appears. Can anyone PLEASE help. thanks

The check engine light will come on for a few seconds after you start the bike if it has a stored trouble code. Holding the button in will give you codes for the speedo and sensor. Ya have to plug it into a Scanylizer or 50 start cycles to erase the trouble code. B)

Thanks. If there is a problem or not will 50 starts erase it? Does that mean I can turn the ignition on and off 50 times and it will reset?Or do I have to actually start the motor as well? I really am thankful for all the help Im getting.

Unfortunately, you have to start and stop it 50 times.

    Re: Trouble shooting the codes

Can you just do this. Or is this just for clearing the 04/05 Trouble codes

To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up.
Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
