Have a fellow in my town that is running a flathead and restoring it with original parts. He is having most of the work done here at Bobos Speed & Custom Cycle 803 W 5th Noorth St Summerville, SC 29483-3847 803-821-3537. They may be able to help you with finding parts or even some advice. http://www.abatesc.com/sponsors/bobo/index.html and this is their web site.

a buddy of mine has a really nice one - 1945

would be cool if you could get a higher gear ratio going on it, since it's the main drawback to the bike....only being able to go about 50 MPH that is.

No problem there, I have a turbo for it and I am not using a stock tranny or naything else for that matter

Going to build a a very small light 4130 frame & go from there

Me too! Why do you think I offered! I rebuilt a Shovelhead motor at MMI, once I finished it we put it on the start bench and fired that baby up. She ran like a top, the instructer walked out of the classroom and I gave that baby every drop of gas she could take, got about 8000 rpm outta that baby before she thru a rod right the crankcase. (The instructor was none to happy thou) Still, I got a 98% in the rebuild class. Damn that was fun!

Would that be that piston speed issue coupled with out of balance rotating assembly?
Never fight with a fool, others may not be able to tell the two of you apart.
