I do a lot of gunsmithing and some of the tricks from there apply to the bike. The best is bronze wool; it won't scratch chrome and being bronze, it won't rust if any tiny fibers are left behind. If you have oil, rubber or burned on bird shit, it will do the trick. I like to use it with WD40 or the Mothers Chrome Polish sugessted by Talisman. Really works nice. I get mine at Brownells the gunsmith supply people; its inexpensive and really works well. Here is Brownell's link: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/sto...le=BRONZE+WOOL
I made the mistake of trying to wipe oil off my exhaust with a microfiber cloth right after I shut down the engine and the microfibers kind of just melted on the pipe. I tried everything from Windex and S100 to lighter fluid and tar & bug remover without effect. Then I tried WD-40 and the scrubby side of a dual-purpose sponge and it came right off!Originally Posted by Ed45

0000 steel wool worked for me with the above wd-40. Don't use scotch-brite!
Some is good, more is better and too much is just enough!
eazy-off oven cleaner and steel wool works great for getting burn crap off the pipes.
