    Troubleshooting Oil Consumpsion on TC-88

    Thank God for HCG!!!

Wide had posted this below mentioned service bulletin, and it served me as my bike is currently having the valve seals replaced.

I will give you my Specs and it might scare some of you.

    Troubleshooting Oil Consumpsion on TC-88
Here is the factory service sheet on this matter
You will need Adobe to view this

Buy a 2005 FLHT with TC-88B engine. Run 400 miles on it, get all break in oils changed at dealer. Run to 3400 miles, I do oil change only. 7600 miles, I have dealer do oil change, special price deal day I was there. Up until then didn't burn a quart..

At 11,600 I notice I am quart low. I blame headwind trip and hot dogging throttle to and from York Open House. Get the 10,000 mile service work done. almost 500 dollars. At 12,250, I am down another quart I actually thought maybe they shorted me on the top off at the dealer. I put in a quart, and start checking daily. At 12,800 I am another quart low, no smoking, no flogging, no spark misses nothing..

I print off Wides bulletin and bring it to the dealer. They will look at it.

Getting the brake work done while there, all warranty. Moving to Kevlar and floating rotors on front.. My service guy calls and says, "you were right" we found out you had the bad valve seal., It is green instead of the orange replacement piece.

So now I will go get it after the holiday...

My worry is that people out there won't have the mileage on their bike to notice the issue in the 2 year warranty time period. If you have a 2005 check consistently before your warranty is out. TC-88 or TC-88B..
It's not the years, it's the mileage!!

When seconds count, the cops are moments away!!

With modern technology there is no reason for any low mileage engine to be needing a quart of oil between oil changes.

The oil seals in question are specific to '05 and early '06 model years. You can read more about them here http://www.harleychatgroup.com/index...wtopic&t=27274

Glad your getting that fixed, I was tired of riding behind you in a cloud of oil smoke Good thing my hand deflectors kept the raw oil from your exhaust off my hands :P
