Anybody got any suggestions, preferbly inexpensive, to lower my softail?
Also i would like to change out the stock taillight and license brackets with an aftermarket one preferbly the same type of set up. I have seen plenty of them for the older models but cant seem to find one for the new bikes.

JP Cycles has one to fit the new 200 series wide tire fenders. Pretty pricey though.
I still don't get any respect!!!
i'm not a huge fan of lowering softails as the swingarm movement is minimal to begin with. if you are a 200+ pound rider, the chances increase you'll be hitting the bumpstops a lot.
that being said (and opinions will differ), the easiest/cheapest way to do it is to retain the stock shocks and use a linkage enxtension kit from any number of suppliers. you';ll need a shock wrench to hold the body while you remove the old pins and install the longer ones.....

If I am not mistaken, HD came out with a new tail light assembly to replace that gawd awful unit on the Night Trains and Standards. I think it is pricey though.
Used a white bros. lowering kit on my Night Train. Like Junior said, be careful how much ya lower it. I lowered mine about 2 inches but I'm a lightweight. Only about 175 pounds. No way I could ever ride 2 up with it like that.

I ride a '95 FXSTS. I'm a pretty big guy (240) so I didn't want to lower it too much (most of the lowering happens when I sit on it), and I like to ride the cornes, which causes scraping on the muffler bracket bolts and primary case.
I lowered it 1" with a new set of shocks and it seemed to make all the difference I could afford. I also change the seat to give it a lower profile.
But what I really like is how I change the look by going with a different tail light. I don't really like the way the stock lights stick out past the rear fender. I also changed out the blinkers.
Everyone's different so check it out and see if it doesn't give you some ideas of your own. B)

Thanks for the help guys, and for those who posted a pic, those are some great looking softails. I have found a taillight that I like it comes standard on the Screamin Eagle Springer. It retails for 240.00, which is high but cheaper than the joker machine assembly i found. But the stock assembly has to go so I guess I will have to just bite the bullet out spend the doe. And for the lowering issue I think 1" to 2" will do, air ride suspension is sweet but way to damn high.

just remember if ya lower to far your'e gonna scrape through the primary and cause leaks , not to mention in a hard lean you could "stick" the bike and end up crashing...just something to think about. Cartdog's bike is lowered and he is really wanting to raise it after all the damage scraping has done. not to mention he can't turn as sharp.

I've got a 2000 FXST and am just now installing an Alen Ness lowering kit. It includes the rear shock extensions, front dampers, and a shorter kickstand. I finished redoing the rear shocks today with the pt# 17-100 and took some pics and step by step instructions added to them, I assume you have the same shocks that I do. It's pretty easy to do but you will need a press to do it right. I tried to attach the pics but there are 8 of them so I'm not sure why it wouldn't take them all but if you are interested maybe we can figure out a way to send them. I can fix bikes but computers are a mystery to me.
