    Tips and Tricks!

I have renamed this thread so everyone can post any Tips and Tricks they have about Scratch Bike Building.

When building a bike from scratch the first thing you realize is nothing is standard. In particular, the size belt you'll need. Here is a simple 3 step formula to figure out what size belt you will need. (Note: all measurements should be made in metric for better accuracy.) You can copy the below file and print it out to help. B)

    Re: The right size belt

Good post Relic. I keep around 20 belts in stock. 1 of each for a pile of different applications. It's staggering how much inventory you have to lay in since it's not like the old days. You stocked a standard 120 link chain or an O'ring 120 and just busted a few links out to make 'em fit.

And don't even get me started on primary belts.

How many do they make? A couple dozen. I jumped onto the shop computer and without a ton of investigating I saw:

    128, 130, 132, 136, 139 and 149.

If you'd like a complete list let me know and I'll look into it further.

Edit: Widths aren't mentioned in the descriptions. I'd have to physically check 'em.

If you get some free time a list of belts w/PN would be insane

Thankyou for the formula. I'm sure it will come in very handy in the (my) future!
Why do we drive on parkways and park in driveways?
