    Mounting Saddlebags

Hey all.. It has been a long, long time. I hope all is well.

A dude I know gave me a set of saddlebags that will fit on my Fatboy. My question is, is the only way to get them to work is to replace the rear blinkers and use the HD mounting bracket?

I am not going to leave them on the bike. Actually, I will only use them one or two long rides a year. So, I don't want the mounting bracket on my bike when I don't have the bags on. Plus, as you all know, HD is very proud of their stuff and expect you to pay out the ass for them. I am having a hard time justifing 300 bucks for something I am going to use twice a year at the most.

I looked at those Easybracket after market setup. Looks ok, but they come with the saddlebags and I don't need the bags, just the setup....

Ok, there is my rant. Let me know if any of you crafty sob's came up with anything.

    Thanks.

    Re: Mounting Saddlebags

    Hey Shimmy boy, welcome back.

On a bike of mine, I bought some aftermarket blinker lights after I removed the stock ones, mounted the bags, and determined what I actually needed to work. It was really simple. Don't forget to get a turn signal "load equilizer" if you go to an aftermarket with a different bulb size.

You can always try eBay for the relocation kit at a discount.

    Jazda,

As normal, you are correct. After looking more into it, I can get the EZ Bracket without a saddlebag. Which is what I think I am going to do. For 150 bucks, be able to slap the bags on and off will be nice.

Good to be back.. Been a busy and crazy 8 months...

    Re: Mounting Saddlebags

I have a 2000 FXST and wanted saddlebags so I looked into the Ghost Brackets and the Easy Brackets. I bought the Easy Brackets online and am glad I got them. When you remove them all you have on your bike is two little SS nubs on each of your struts that you hardly notice. I don't think the Ghost brackets have SS harware so your talkin rust after awhile. They work great and I ordered some bags from Carolinia Leather. They are just about the same size as the stock bags on a Heritage but not quite as tall which works out great because I'm lowering it 2" and the bags will be about an inch from my pipes. I did have to relocate my turn signals so I put them on each side of the license plate with some brackets that I think came with the Easy Brackets but I did refab them a little for my needs. The stock wiring for the turn signals was long enough to relocate and it looks like it came from the factory. My bike now looks like a sporty Heritage.

    Re: Mounting Saddlebags

If anybody can help me I would greatly appreciate it.I installed a new battery in my bike and accidently hooked the cables up backwards.I got a spark when I hooked them up and that should have told me stop and look but I was stupid and had it hooked up for several minutes before I realized they were crossed. Now battery is completely drained after a few hours of riding and bike won't even jump start. What all have I probably screwed up?
