ok electrical experts - still haven't fixed this problem. Just got it back from Harley for 2nd time, they said they could not replicate the problem (yeah right) happens every time the bike is out and they say they checked everything over again and can't find anything wrong. Bottom line - lights fail only when passing lamps are turned on. Also - when the lights fail the following are additional facts - the light on the front fender remains on, all of the turn signals will still function (but no running lights) and the rear fender brake light will work when front or rear brakes are applied. All lights will remain off for 2, 3 or 4 minutes and then they all come back on for a little while then it happens again and again. Only happens when passing lamps are on. If you run with passing lamps off there are no problems. Does this mean the problem is isolated to the wiring for the passing lamps? Could a defective passing lamp on/off switch cause this failure? Anybody have any bright ideas on where to look for a problem aside from those already suggested? All grounds have been checked and rechecked - no problems have been discovered. If you wanted to design this problem how would you make it occur? That would tell me where to look - but I'm not a very skilled electrician so I need more help!!!!
Thanks guys!
Rick
Additional info - after I rode 30 miles home last night I parked the bike in nuetral in the driveway with all the lights on idling. Those damn lights NEVER went off - all of them shining brightly - no burbs. Seems that problem is occuring only during riding. However if lights go out and you stop (like at a light or something) they will remain off and then suddenly all come back on. Help.
Did you ever determine the final Fix??? My 97 Springer is experiencing very similar issues...
Tks,
