I am riding a 97 Heritage, and it seems a little doggy. I have put a K & N hi flow filter in, replaced the pipes with Vance & Hines Longshots and rejetted the stock carb. Without doing major stuff like porting the heads or changing out the ignition what would be the next single upgrade to get a little more out of the bike? I am going with a EV 27 cam as soon as it comes in,> Suggestions welcome.
A monkey dressed in a suit is still a monkey, but he is a dressed up rascal.
Sounds like you're on the right track. I'm lookin to do the top end of my 98 Dyna next winter. I've done the air cleaner, pipes, and re-jet deal. Think I might spring for the BigBoyz head porting job also, and go with adjustable pushrods.
I know there are lots of choices out there for a camshaft. Anyone have any opinions on a comparable cam to the EV-27??? That's the one I'm looking at right now, but I'd like some more info.
Note to politicians.........instead of spreading my money, how about spreading my work ethic!!!!!.
you will not be disappointed with the ev 27. i had the ev23 and changed it for the ev 27. same low end torque but ran further up the rpm range. it was in a stage 1 1988 evo flhtp with a 40 mm mikuni and it was awesome with stock compression, heads, valves, etc. the right exhaust where you want the power is also a good bet.also if you change cams, before you pull the old one out have someone measure the lash of the stock cam and crank gears and if it is proper with no noise or whine, press your old cam gear off and press it on the new cam.
where ever you go there you'll be! and you'll always be alone or with somebody!
1998 FLHTC.....EV-27 cam, S/E heads and S/E pistons (10.5:1) K&N filter w/ S&S Super E, S/E ignition Sampson pipes minus the baffles....78 HP and 86 TQ
I had a custom head job done with 10.5 pistons, woods w-6 or 8 cam, adj ign, 42mm Mikuni and got 88hp and 91 torque. the power band is from 2100-5000. Ill admit it now needs a 6th gear but from 0-75mph you better hold on. I had an ev27 before and it was good, but now it rocks.
Its for sale btw if anyone knows someone looking for a perfect 99 fatboy
Have you installed the EV27 yet? When you do, put in a Cometic .030 head gasket, will give you a minor bump in compression, for very little money.
the guys have you on the right track, i am thinking that your exhaust might be costing you some pony's , cam choice is good and thinner head gaskets is a good trick or have the heads decked by .50 and you will see a difference, also think about redoing the carb with a tunder kit or what ever kit you like different spring and adjustable needle
Bucket list are for Sissie, men do it while they can enjoy it

how much are you wanting for the fatboy?Originally Posted by Roadkill

I have not had an 80 incher in years, but I always found the key was making them breathe. A good head job was something that always produced results. Going big cam, carb, and exhaust looked good on a dyno, but left flat spots in the torque curve for street riding. if you want throttle response use the smallest carb and exhaust your engine could run without constricting the flow.......Hey, there is a reason an S&S shorty E is only 38mm, and is the recommended carb for anything under 96 cubic inches....
I let my mind wander.......It never came back
