Vibration problem...ideas needed on what it is

got an 03 1200 custom sportster.. first ride seems like I've gotten a vibration that rattles the handle bars going throught the gears. It is definately rpm related as it does it on accel and decel both. On decel it sounds like a metallic chattering. I've checked front motor mounts and I will be taking the tank off to get at the top mount. Just seems worse than I remember it. Any suggestions on what else to check would be appreciated.......thanks

I'm gonna check all the mounts tonight. Is it possible that I could be getting vibration from the primary chain? maybe that needs adjusted.

I don't think that would cause much vibrations had mine very loose and didn't notice any.

An improperly adjusted primary chain can cause vibes.

Motor mounts are all tight, primary adjustment is good....still got the wicked vibration. Goes away if I pull in the clutch while riding so it must be motoer related........what else should I check?

Re: Vibration problem...ideas needed on what it is

I bought a set of them today and will install tonight. I don't think thats the problem tho. The bike is a 2003 so they aren't that old but I'm trying all the inexpensive stuff first. I even bought soft grips and I'm thinking of putting a couple of rolls of nickels in each side of the bars.

The vibration is in a tight range, I don't have a tach to tell you what it is but it happens on accel and decel. I'm wondering if it could be something loose in the clutch?
