    Re: 2008 1125R Buell

Two weeks ago I did a testride with the 1125R. Nice bike but the original Buell (883 or 1200) has a higher fun-factor.

The 1125R is build to go straight on, you really have to change your position on the saddle to take a turn.

Also the rpm's are different. This is because the type of engine.
    883/1200: Harley
    1125R: Rotax (?)
Max rpm for the 883/1200: 6500
Max rpm for the 1125R: 10500
Shit happens, but it doesn't mean that I like it...

The Buell 1125R is a very cool bike. I've been trying to get a test ride myself. Unfortunately, my local H-D/Buell dealer would rather stock Cross Bones. The Austrian Rotax engine in the 1125R will take Buell where they need to go to be competitive. I think it's their best package yet.

Kick some Ducati and BMW ass? On the track it should beat most of the current Beemers, but not comparable Ducatis. No matter what, competition is great for the industry -- it sells bikes, elevates the brand, and brings new riders into the sport. I think all the manufactures should be racing.

If you want to watch Superbike racing, 2009 will be an exciting year. There will be a host of new bikes and manufactures being fielded by people who haven't been on the track for a long time.

There are currently two BMW models, the R1200R and the K1200S, that are just a few hundred dollars more than the $12,000 Buell 1125R. Alternately, there are a couple of Beemers that sell for well below and a little above the price-point of the Buell 1125R -- the F800ST and R1200S. They weigh slightly more than the Buell, but they aren't purpose built sportbikes.

However, there is a new BMW all-out race/sportbike bike that has just been announced -- the BMW S1000RR. This bike will compete in 2009, and eventually win on the SBK World Superbike racing series. The BMW S1000RR is designed to go toe-to-toe with Ducati and the Japanese race bikes, and be priced to sell to the public on a par with the relatively inexpensive Japanese bikes like the CBR1000RR.

Did you see the Discovery channel special: Birth of a Racer?

Unfortunately, Michael Czysz designed and built a 990cc engine, and MotoGP changed the rules from a 990cc to a 800cc engine. Doh!

The Cross Bones is Harley's attempt to rid itself of thousands of unused Springer Classic frames and frontends. If the bike had been selling they wouldn't have dropped it in the first place, so now they're trying to keep it out of the junk bin (lamely) by re-inventing it as a chrome-free bobber. Where the old Springer Classic was supposed to be a throwback to the 40's, the Cross Bones is a throwback to what they did with 40's bikes in the 50's. Anything but coming up with fresh, original ideas for the tired, worn-out "designers" at the MoFo.

Isn't the Springer Classic frame just a regular softail frame. Only difference would be the front fork which is a springer. Or does it have a different neck rake?

Yeah, it's the same frame. It's really only the springer fork that they were stuck with 1000's of. They'd have been better off throwing 'em out 'cause they're gonna lose their ass on all those unsold bikes. I should've alluded to the black oil tank with a "1" sticker on it that was only used on the Springer Classic and now is only used on .... yep, you got it.
