Same here in my wide glide. $18,000 for bike, I'll pay the $10.00 for the recommended oil from the dealer. Not worth a chance in my mind.

I dont know about oil but I have found in cars that the parts from the dealers are costly but are of a much higher quality. They always fit correctly.

Don't know if it makes any difference but the service manager at my dealer who I have a good relationship with told me that formula+ stuff is the best bang for your buck. I asked him if I could put Castrol 20w50 MC oil in the tranny and said I shouldn't.

I run a foot clutch, hand shift and find that regular tranny oil works better than the synthetic stuff. Last time I used "Bardahl" brand tranny oil and it cost the same as the HD formula+ stuff.

Plus, you should really only have to change tranny fluid once a year or so.

Interesting topic...as it always is....many believe that moco shit isn't worth a damn - others do - others say it is no different - as we like to say YMMV. As for insurance - you'll never convince me of that...

Ride the damn thing and change it as you should.......

What was the price of the "old" stuff?

    06/08/02
    99896-88D SPORT TRANS FLUID $5.25

    09/04/2007
    99851-05 FORMULA+ $6.95

I don't have much problem with a $0.34 yearly increase in price.
