    San Francisco????

    Hey Folks,
There is a company in San Fran that has made my wife a job offer. We know nothing about the city. We have a couple of weeks to think about it and I was wondering if any of you could tell me a little about the place.

Hows the cost of living? I imagine its not cheap...
Do you have to go way out of the city to find reasonable housing?
Is it a bike friendly city?
Whats the weather like through out the year? Can I ride all year?
Life is good but it's not easy!

    Hell Yes GO!!!
    1. You guys are still young.
    2. No kids in tow/no waiting for schools...big bonus.
    3. You can always move back.
    4. Cost of living is high? Maybe, but think about what youre trading it for.
    5. West coast, NO SNOW, close proximity to LA, Diego, Vegas, Portland, Seattle.....the list goes on.
    6. California beaches and California girls.
    7. To make a decision on moving in such a short time you need to grab alot of data, compare, and choose. Check out www.city-data.com and print out the stats for San Fran and where you live and compare. Maybe it cost a little more to live there, but less crime, friendlier people, etc might be the incentive you need. You can check out salaries/race/crime/density/climate/geography, etc.
Also, since your time is limited, email both Chamber of Commerces for any and all brochures, maps, and real estate guides they have. Then sit down and compare the two. Youll see right away which town will provide a better life for you guys.
    Good luck Rhino, and GO!!
One more: http://www.fedstats.gov/ <--current data on almost everything.
And another...http://www.federalreserve.gov/FOMC/B...0080116/12.htm <--Biege Book is a 8 times a year published report on current economic conditions from the Federal Reserve. January's report is already out and I believe the link I gave you goes straight to SF.

Damn, Shorty just convinced me to go and I don't have a job out there...

I'd go. I'm a mercenary and go where the money is.

Id go for the adventure and sheer living of it all. How many time is it said around here 'life is too short'? Yeah, life is too short and we're not getting any younger. Ive moved...I cant even count anymore, more than 17 times in 21 yrs, and if I had a chance to move right now Id swoop on it.
Im never satisfied with the status quo and just like Charles Kuralt, I keep thinking I will find something wonderful just around the next bend.

17 times!! Typical woman, can't make up your mind.... :P

Seriously, I agree. The only way to really learn about a place is to live there. You can't just visit. The only thing I find is everywhere I go in the US it's all pretty much the same. It's not a bad thing, I love it. Hard to explain what I mean. I didn't notice it till I got overseas. It's like a whole different country over there!! :P

    Re: San Francisco????

I live in So Cal and have visited Frisco. It is an awesome place to visit and there are a lot of cool things to see and do there. It is a beautiful part of the state.
That being said, it is waaaay more expensive to live there, even compared to socal. I don't know what your politics are but it is also one of the most liberal places you will ever find. If you are a hardcore dem. then you will love it there! If you are a right winger you will not agree with a lot of your neighbors.
They get a fair amount of rain but even in the winter the temps don't drop too low. And yes there is that pesky helmet law thing.
I'd say if you are adventurous and can do it without going bankrupt go for it. Like in an earlier, post you can always move back. Or you may like the west coast and find a spot out here to call home.
