    Engine swap

Well, with 60K on the clock I decided to pull the old faithful 80" motor. I kinda been waiting on something to break so I would have an excuse to wake it up. EVOs just take a lickin' and keep on tickin' so I will bench this one for now. In it's place will be an S&S 111" I started about an hour and a half ago and I'm just burnt for the night. I did manage to pull the pipes, disconnect the battery, and get the primary chain off.

Well, I wasn't going to say anything but...... After the way you all beat up on Betty in South Carolina I figured I would return the favor down here. I did think it was kind of coincidental that when I mentioned a 111" for Betty, all the sudden everybody wants to rent bikes when they come down. LOL

    Re: Engine swap

Got to spend about three hours on her tonight. So far so good. I swear that 80" feels like it weighs a hundred pounds more than the 111". I guess my old back ain't what it used to be. I do have a list of things I'll need to do and I'm going to keep track of them on this thread.

Modify shifter rod, bigger fins won't clearance the heim joint.

Change kickstand, don't want it rubbing the belt.

Fab new top motor mount, the 111 is shorter so the holes are closer than a stock unit. Probably use some round 316 stainless stock.

Punch the bearing out of the motor plate and replace it with a quality aircraft grade.

    Wire in the compression releases

Fab new headlight mount out of 316 ss (thanks for the idea junior)

Pull outer bearing race from tranny mainshaft, can't find my puller.....damn.

Replace engine mounting hardware with stainless cap screws.

Reroute handlebar harness through springer crown.

Ain't that the truth. I have several friends who have EVOs they have ridden over 100,000 miles without a rebuild.
