    Adding a Kickstart

Hi Everybody ........... New to the site and new to the Harley scene, been involved with Jap bike all my life, well so far, over 35 years since I started playing. stripping & racing them. Now got a 1992 FXR Evo fitted with standard headers & slip on silencers/mufflers. Always found the jap bikes small and best one I ever had & used for long touring journies is/was an XS 650 but at 6' 4" and 240 Ibs its a bit small ....... thing is I'd like to fit a kickstart to the FXR, always been a thing of mine to kickstart a Harley, sick, sad ?

Bare with me whilst I learn the lingo and come upto speed on the bike.

Anything I should know or avoid re the kickstart ?

    Re: Adding a Kickstart

    welcome....couple of thoughts...

the aftermarket kicker covers for the 5 speeds stick out some and might interfere with the pipes. if the current pipes run along the end cover- it might be an issue.

if it is a stock motor, it should start ok. however, if you use an aftermarket ignition they have a kickstart setting which helps.

    love them fxr's....

    Re: Adding a Kickstart

Thanks for the kind words. I'm not gonna do anything special, hi-flo filter, Ev-27, adj' push rods (alloy or steel ?) Crane ignition and an HSR carb. How well will the carb run from the box ? All I want is a free(ish) reving motor which is still reliable ................... Any advice welcome.

Sounds like she will run pretty good

Do a little head cleaning up (mild porting) and you will have a fun reliable daily driver. I too like the bikes to run reliable, really pays off for fun rides

We can help you dial in your carb, after all we like doing via the internet. Much more of a challange

    Re: Adding a Kickstart

i've never had good luck tuning flatslides- they always seem to run fat. a lot of guys like them though. almost any aftermarket carb you buy will be fat out of the box, but never suppose that. always bolt it up, run it, tweek it, and look at the plugs. if you have to make a jet change do it after you inspect the plugs as every bike and rider will be different.

you can use the stock pushrods with that cam- i'd save the bucks for something else.

the combo you want is likely one of the most common on evo's it will run well on a light bike like an fxr...
