I would like to get it Dyno'ed, but the dealership seems to be running through the people and I just don't trust them any more. I would like to find a good Dyno guy to do it for me, but none around my neck of the woods. [Iowa]. Any thoughts? Jerry
Shitcan the SERT, buy a PCIII usb, and take it to Illinois Dyno service (I believe) in Port Byron and have it tuned correctly!!

For a lot of people -- myself included, the issue isn't so much engine heat damaging the internals of the engine, as it is the engine heat slow-roasting the rider.

My last H-D Road Glide which had a big-bore, stage-I kit was a great bike as long as I was moving at a good clip. Also, I ran Mobil 1 V-Twin oil which I believe helped lower the engine temperature about 20 degrees.

But, if I was caught in stop and go traffic, the heat coming off that rear cylinder was enough to make me sell the thing and give up big-twin Harleys all together out of frustration.

When the V-Twin engine went to 96 cubic inches, the problem just seemed to get worse. The initial solution, with the dealer engine control unit download, seemed like a stop-gap measure, with the current throttle activated solution offering the rider more options.

(I recently rode an '09 in a demo ride, but I didn't have the opportunity to activate the parade-mode (twist the throttle in the opposite direction), because I was in a group that was always moving. The 96 cubic inch engine seemed pretty darn hot -- even while moving in city traffic.)

What about this new dynamic parade-mode feature on the new bikes? Has this feature improved things for the guy roasting in traffic?

I would be interested to hear from someone who has one of these new bikes.

lol...I never owned a water cooled bike, so I guess I don't know what I am missing.
all my bikes roasted ya if you sat idling... from a Duc, Sporty, Shovel and my softail.
if you take an air cooled engine it's cooling system is doing its job if it is radaiting heat...
now wrap a fairing around that and I wonder why ya get baked?
just makes sence to me, I really don't see fans being a great solution, just a bandaid
the parade mode sounds intresting but it will still generate heat and if you are not moving I would guess ya better hope for a nice breeze to come along our grin and bear it

Well, I have yet been able to manually activate the system. When it was stock, it came on a couple of times automatically, but never with me twisting the throttle.

So I have to wonder if it's still "automatic" with the grip just allowing the rider to activate the option?

FWIW - TTS Mastertune has reprogrammed this feature. Rather than just disabling the rear cylinder, they alternate cutting off the front cylinder and the rear cylinder. Since I've tuned my bike, it hasn't come on yet. Looking forward to seeing how the new implementation of this cooling method works myself.

People like to turn there nose up to the BMW boxer engine, but the Max Fritz designed, horizontally opposed, flat twin has the cylinders hanging out, unobstructed in the breeze. Plus the exhaust manifold extends forward, making a big 180° loop which dissipates a lot of convective heat and directs most of the radiant heat forward away from the rider.

It's the radiant heat coming off the rear-cylinder of the V-Twin that I find most uncomfortable.

Even with a fairing, the BMW boxer engine cylinder heads are exposed and get optimum cooling effect.

I really have nothing but respect for BMW engines...I have torn down BMW car engines with 300,000 miles on them and it looked like new,
    now that is impressive
