August 24th isn't such a great day in our family.
It is the day my mom was born so for a long time it was great but it's also the day my grandmother died.
At 5:30 this morning I got a call from my daughter. She was calling from the hospital doped up on pain meds. She'd lost her baby (miscarriage) at 13 weeks lastnight. Her husband has been in the Middle East since she found out she was pregnant and I'm not sure if she's been able to tell him she lost the baby.
Please pray for Beth & Steve as they deal with this loss.

Melissa,
Sorry to hear this news. The loss of a baby is devastating by itself. Never mind your daughter must be worried about her husband on a daily basis and she needs his support right now.
I'll keep them in my prayers.

Took a look down a westbound road
Right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two wheeler
I was tired of my own voice

Thoughts and prayers go out to your daughter.
At this emotional time it easy to loose sight of the fact that a miscarriage is not a personal failure; rather a natural occurrence.
Many women have a miscarriage early in a pregnancy, followed by a health pregnancy and delivery. Don't despear.
Thanks to all for the love and support. It's one of the reasons Harley Chat Group is a favorite place of mine in tough times.
I know a lot of unknowns go into causing miscarriages. My daughter knows some of the risk factors and I think she'll look into more health issues before trying again.
Un-diagnosed / un-treated strep-b is a leading cause of miscarriage. Unfortunately most doctors don't test for it until 35 weeks gestation. By then a large percentage of Strep-B miscarriages have taken place. She'll get tested for it soon to either treat or rule it out. http://www.thejessecause.org (my friends' son, Jesse was born when Shelene had active Strep-B. He almost died at birth. She started the Jesse Cause as a result and has saved countless babies from miscarriage, still-birth, early death, and lifelong health issues.
Also, there's a chance she has an inherited auto-immune disease I have (celiac sprue disease). If so, active, un-treated CD leads to miscarriage, poor fetal growth, low birth weight, and failure to thrive in many cases. She appears to have active CD and has for most of her life. I've only recently begun the testing / diagnosing process due to life-long health issues that finally pissed me off enough that I demanded a doctor test me for it (after 8 wrong diagnosis over 30 years). She has not been tested because it's an automatic discharge from the military. She can simply go off gluten before trying to get pregnant and remain gluten free throughout her pregnancy.
If she does both the Strep-B testing / treatment & goes off gluten, there's a good chance she'll have a successful pregnancy.
Sorry for the rant. I'm thrilled to have found a possible reason for my own miscarriage a few years ago (I was in active CD at the time but didn't know that's what it was). Women need to learn how to take care of themselves.
