Ok pretty much how to get the swirls out if you have not scratched the finish, after washing remember when waxing or polishing, never swirl the wax on and swirl the wax off (sound familar) The secret is to wax in one direction like East to West and then remove the wax in the same direction. And after the wax job it is best to use a glazing product like Show & Shine or 3M Finess hand glaze.
This seals the wax and gives you a deeper luster especuially on a darker finish. If you have scratched the surface clear you will have to use a fine rubbing compound to remove the scratches before waxing. This can be done with or without a machine. Hand rubbing will take a little longer but remember buffing is done in circles so you don't burn the finish The wax goes on East to West.

Tell me your not sitting in the garage late at night reving the motor and humping the gas tank.

I used to do that. I read somewhere in the service manual that if I did that long enough I would go blind. I decided to just do it until I needed glasses.

    Re: Custom Paint Questions

Okay Spiglo, I gotta ask...Why do so many people always say to wax in a circular motion to begin with? I know most swirl jobs come from people who burn the paint with electric buffers, and can understand that, but does hand waxing that way cause swirls as well?

Its one of those questions of "Why the hell does manufactures say to wax in a circular motion" when it does more harm than good. Plus, I know every time I wax my bike, there isnt room for the circular action usually done with waxing cars, so I usually just go back and forth anyway.

    Re: Custom Paint Questions

Well all I can say to that is that is the way they where taught why the circilar motions??? Good question, It just seems to be that if you swirl...thats the results you will get. I have had buffed black paint jobs by hand glazing in one direction always had a great finish in its looks. I have also learned in the past that by swirling leaves that impression in the finish. Try it and you will see that the east to west method works out a lot better than swirling. But you can only really see that in Darker finishes. When I buff out a paint job I use 3 types of compound before hand glazing and even then I have to finish east to west otherwise you will see swirles!

I also thing they tell you that way to get maximum coverage it is a little harder to wax in one direction so I think to explain that to the General public would take up too much room on the directions lable.
