If the rider is CHATTING away about BS that indeed is unsafe. But for IBA type rides and other LD events its just a convenience factor for check ins, status, etc. I wld never support the use of a Bluetooth Phone for just BS talking. Like you, bad for cagers and VERY bad for us! DREBBIN

Hmmm...but now we have to define "BS," don't we? I am firmly against the use of electronic communication devices while operating any motor vehicle. Telepathy works much better.

Oh well. I sure love my CB -- its paid off many times over and is another must for IBA rides. DREBBIN

QUESTION: If the helmet is Bluetooth compatible and the cell phone is Bluetooth compatible, what's the stereo for? Your phone and helmet get synced and the helmet allows you to answer your call, no? Sorry, I have no experience with Bluetooth whatsoever.

H-D offered kit 76408-06 at $499.95 and it went obsolete. Only 3 dealers in the country show stock. Rossmeyer, 954-491-0300; Renegade, 318-448-1509; Hurricane, 504-362-4004.

Butch mentioned the Zumo 550 and I have one too. I would have to sync my phone to my GPS and take the call with a wired headset. Isn't that why you're buying a $500 helmet with the Bluetooth wireless headset built in?

I wish I had more to offer by way of assistance but there it is.

I can see using communication devices for this kind of purpose.
But anyone socializing will driving or riding should be locked up for irresponsibly operating a dangerous weapon.

I almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day.
It was gettin' kinda long, I could've said it was in my way.
But I didn't and I wonder why, I feel like letting my freak flag fly

I believe one of the issues with Bluetooth and the current J&M solution is increased signal BANDWIDTH.

Early Bluetooth solutions would only allow MONO signals and a limited frequency fidelity than made listening to music via Bluetooth less than perfect.

I've had wired helmets and hated being tethered to the bike, but for music they were the preferred system. Advances in Bluetooth protocols have enabled better frequency response and STEREO sound. I believe the new J&M stuff uses its own proprietary Bluetooth protocol to achieve its higher stereo quality.

I'm using the Cardo Scala Rider Q2 Bluetooth system which is optimized for full-duplex communication between bikes/riders and as a VOX hands-free/helmet headset. For that purpose it's ideal -- a compact and elegant solution for inter-bike communication of up to 1,500 meters. The noise canceling microphone is truly exceptional.

It works great as a cellphone headset too. I can be riding along at 80 mph and the person I'm speaking with thinks I'm speaking with them from my home phone.

Cardo Scala Rider Q2 adapts to most helmets and is really pretty small.

    Re: J&M BLUETOOTH IS HERE

I'm truly not against cell phones in cars or bikes. What I am against is hands on while riding/driving. I know I am more worried about people driving the car with the cell phone on the ear, especially the left ear, where they can't see me coming past them.

On the bike, a quick push and quick call to the Road captain to say you have a broke down bike is a time saver.

Also, about CB.. I live in the VERY RF crowded area of the NE. There are still TONS of CB users up here, and they can be a serious PITA when truing to communicate. They purposely annoy and irratate some of our riders, so we stay away from it. (While I acknowledge how great it can be for channel 19 to take you 1000 miles in 18 hours. LOL)
We tried the FRS (Family Radio Service which is FM) but equipment capalibility was tough. There VOX was not designed for bike wind, etc.
It's not the years, it's the mileage!!
