I have an stock Harmon Kardon stereo in my '06 Ultra Classic. Lately the stereo has begun to cycle on and off by itself. This is the same case with the CD player. When I shut the stereo off the clock still works so I assume the unit is getting power. If you leave the stereo on and it shuts itself off the clock is blank. I don't know if it's a short it the handlebar switch or the stereo itself. Can someone help?
One thing for sure Harley can't/won't fix it for you. Mine does that in the rain. Luckily the only time. I will just have to live with it. Harley will also work on it for 6 months before they will consider replacing. Yes, you find out quickly they are in the motorcycle business and not the stereo business. If it works that is fine with Harley and if it doesn't that is also fine with Harley.
Check connections is the only advice I have.
Cheap stuff ain't good! Good stuff ain't cheap!
The one in my 06 street glide will stop working for days. Right before I go to take it out and replace it it will just start working again.
Good luck.
Mine did the same thing on my 07 Street Glide. Got a refurbished one from my Harley Dealer for $270. the only problem is it's asking to be calibrated and I don't know how to do that.
You can do the downloads via the harley web via a recordable CD. Mine quits at odd times too, hadn't done it for months last time was three days then it just worked again.
