I got a S S Super E carb and the bike pops out of it every once in a while. The exhaust pipes are smoking where they clamp onto the heads and the spark plugs are fowling some. Is all that really due to a leaking intake manifold?

several different things....
as i recall, you have an ironhead. the smoking near the pipe/head interface and the fouled plugs are likely an oil issue. ironheads are known for guide problems. have you pulled the headpipe off and ran yor finger in the exhaust port? if it is oily- that's the culprit.
the popping can be related to a fouling plug, but it depemds om what else is going on. when dos it pop- on takeoff, acceleration, cruise?

Hey nucklheadsports did you get carb pops fixed?
I guess it's about time to admit this problem was caused by intake manifold clamps. I had those custom two piece clamps that work with rubber O-rings. When I found out about the leak the clamps had to be replaced with some that completely wrapped around the intake manifold. I also had to learn that they work fine with rubber O-rings when you wrap some electrical tape around the O-rings twice.
