From what you are saying, if you wanted to change your settings with another dyno run or something drastic happened to your bike then you'd have to get a new tuner each time? Only one use?

Here's a scenario: On the bike I mentioned, my wifes 07 1200 Sportster we put on exhaust and a SE air cleaner and they ran it. Just so happens, now I'd like to install a HEAVY BREATHER .Can I run another dyno run for it installed using my same tuner I used before?

My wifes 2007 Sportster is the first EFI bike I've owned. After LOTS of reading here before I installed the new exhaust and SE air cleaner I bought the SE tuner ( before the olders ones were gone and only newer more expensive ones being sold).
I was told I'd have a 3 hr. dyno bill and the tuner could only be used after that on THAT bike.
After it was all done I was only billed an hour for a 'flash' and got a before and after printout. I never got one 'before' with old pipes/cleaner on it, just with the new pipes/cleaner after I took it in. It runs great BTW. Plugs look good when checked.
My question is this....why CAN'T you use that tuner on ANY HD you'd ever own. Can't the memory just be reset by another run? This seems strange that an electronic device like this could only be used on the one bike. Whats the real truth about this. It seems that the downloaded memory could just be written over?
Are HD techs just trained to sell a tuner for every bike along with pipes/cleaner?

The tuner is a software application and it marries to the ECM that it is put in. One use only built into the software.
It marries to the ECM it is installed in. It CANNOT be used with another ECM. You can change the maps all you want in the original ECM it was installed in.
