Anybody know what the CV carb's stock jet #'s are?

Anybody know what the stock jets are supposed to be in my 1994 Low Rider? I bought this bike used 5 years ago, and I don't know if the CV carb has been rejetted or not...

I know the main jet is marked 180. Not sure if that's stock or not.

I'm wanting to enrichen the idle jet a bit, hoping to stop some of the popping I'm getting on decel. It's not the exhaust gaskets... I've taken care of that. I think it's just the ethanol gas.

Anyway, I was thinking of going up one stage in the idle jet, and maybe one stage on the main.

Hey LowRider94...pretty sure that the 180 is not stock. Stock on a 95 FLSTN is 42 slow and 165 main. Hard to diagnose without hearing what your bike is doing, but it could be your timing that is causing popping on deceleration. Have you checked your plugs? If you are familiar with jetting by plug coloration, they will tell you if you need to step up your jets. A 180 is a pretty good size jet unless you have had some serious motor work done. Is this an issue that just showed up or have you done anything to your bike recently? Intake leaks, whether a carb to intake or intake to head, will also cause a lean situation which can lead to popping on decel. Check out those gaskets and vacuum lines, could be a good place to start. Hope this helps...

    Thanks for the reply...

The bike really just began doing this when ethanol got real "POP"ular.

So I think it's the gas... but it of course could be something else. Not everyone who is running ethanol is getting the decel pops.

As far as what I've recently done to the bike, I had an exhaust manifold stud (rear cylinder) back off, then it seized... then I broke it off trying to tighten it. I had to drill it out, and should have replaced the exhaust gasket, but didn't. About 200 miles later (but not immediately) is when I really started to hear the popping.

The popping sound began immediately after a full tank of Marathon 93 octane I got up in Huntington, WV on a ride through Kentucky.

But subsequent tanks of non-ethanol gas have not really changed the sound... so the gas may not have been it. My friend who has a 2003 carbureated Softail did not get any ill effects from that same Marathon gas that day...

Replacing the plugs improved it some. I put in a set of R12 Champions, which are supposed to be what the standard plug is for this engine.

Then... I put in a new exhaust manifold gasket on the rear cylinder, and that might have improved it a bit, but not like it always used to be.

The other rider I went to Kentucky with said that when the bike was popping that BOTH pipes were shooting flames (we were riding home after dark). So unless both exhaust pipes developed a leak at the same time, I don't think it's an exhaust issue. The pipes are Python II's, two totally separate pipes (no crossover), and they are each one piece from the pipe to the muffler (these are not slip ons).

Thanks for the info on the jets. I suppose my idle jet was upgraded when the main jet was put at a 180.

I get stuck running 10% eth here I had to fatten up the fuel a little because it acted like it was running lean really worse in cold weather. a little tweak to run it a little richer should stop the pop on decel
