Alright, this is driveing me crazy so hope someone can help, I have a bud who rides a 2000 soft tail, it is a 88C.I. (1450 I think) I ride a 09 flhx stock, when we race each other he almost walks away from me unless I red line 4th gear and hit 5th, then I run away from him, he says nothing has been done to it, I find it hard to believe that a 88C.I. can keep up with a 96 C.I. so easy!! Please explain this to me. Thank you. Will
I forgot to say that he swears nothing has been done to it, no stage 1, 2 or 3 and the only mod he has made is he had street sweepers put on it.
Well, it's not too hard to believe.
I have a 2009 FLHX and a 2004 softail. The softail is almost 20% lighter and the 2000 year models were not tuned to the same strict EPA regulations as the 2009s. Plus, the 88" engine shares the same bore as the 96". Harley merely stroked the engine to get the larger displacement. The shorter stroked 88 would rev quicker than the 96.

Thank you for replying so fast. Although It wasnt the answer I was looking for....lol.
Look at his air cleaner.....If it doesnt have the black plastic backing it has a stage 1...........
Weight, gearing (his is a 5 speed yours a 6) and alot of other stuff plays a factor........Put a set of S.E. 255 cams in it, a good air cleaner set up and a good 2-1 and you will eat him up............Unless of course your 400 lbs and he is a buck fitty.......![]()
Its a dog eat dog world and I'm wearin milkbone underware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
