    EPA-Legal Harley-Davidson 103ci Hop-Up

Anybody interested in gobs of extra low end torque while staying EPA legal?.
I'm not going to be able to live with this wimpy stock low end torque much longer. This kit doubles the torque at 2500 rpm. That's right where I want it.
This is a pretty good write up with lots of pics in case you want to do it yourself or just see what it takes.

    Cheap thrills

I almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day.
It was gettin' kinda long, I could've said it was in my way.
But I didn't and I wonder why, I feel like letting my freak flag fly

Art if you want torque put a set of S.E. 255 cams in that 96 and put a decent air cleaner on it.......cheap and easy and 95+ lbs of tq and you dont have to change the barrels..........My 103 is getting a set Tues night.......

Whew, that sure is not double the torque for that expensive package. Talk to a good engine builder, and there are many cheaper ways to get allot more torque than that for a lot cheaper price.

BTW: all Harley cams do not have the overlap to cool the motor down sufficiently either. There are many cams out that do a much better job, than the Harley ones. Do your research....

Art, call Hillside in New York, he is one of the best engine builders in the US. Scott is a very nice man and can answer all your questions.

Hillside is a long way from me Coolmaker. I'm going to have Rosa do it.
And I will most likely start out like Coolhawg says and just do the cams for now.

I said it's 2 x the torque at 2500 rpm which you can see by looking at the chart. Stock is 40 the new build is 80.
I might go over and talk to Rosa again today.

Sorry Art, Coolmaker is correct - it is not double.
The two blue lines are one dyno run and the two red lines are another.
The red torque curve starts right about 2500 so it is difficult to say what it is, at least on the computer screen.
So an easy point to read on the line at 3000, which is similar from 2500 to 3000.
The blue torque curve indicates 83 or 84 at 3000, the red torque curve indicates 97 or so.
For an increase of 13 or 14 in torque in this range of rpm.
At least this is how I interpolate the information.
Having said that, it is a good increase in the area I would prefer also.
Not saying it is the best bang for the buck, just that the end result is more or less what I would be looking for if I was looking.

Oh man am I a dummy or what? You guys are right. (too much vapor)
I do plan to ask Rosa for his advice on cams.
My warranty is up soon so, I will be able to take care of this and not have to worry about the warranty.
On the other hand, I am asking Rosa to check my crank and if there is an issue, warranty will still cover it.
I don't want a cam that is going to pump out a shitload of emissions either so I will bring that up.

Art, after talking to Rosa, if you have any questions, call Scott, he will gladly answer any questions and help you to make informed decisions. After all, you want to get it "Right" the first time.

I like the EPA legal deal

I want to see a big motor that passes smog and runs strong. HP is way too easy to make these days. Wirth so many dynos, electronics I want to see clean HP.
