I wouldn't paint it. Jr is right about the cooling fins and even the case would cool faster with bare metal.

I decided no paint and put the motor back in the frame today - the cases simply will not get clean enough short of blasting them. not worth it.
I actually need to back out each engine mount bolt one at a time and put locktight on them. Didn't want to do it while adjusting the mounts during the reinstall.
Next weekend is finish engine reassembly and rewire the bike. Hate the bars - want to replace them with drag bars
