My stock FLHR battery is 5 years old now. Next season will be year #6. I don't want to replace it prematurely, but don't want to find out the hard way it's lifespan is over either. Assuming everything on the electrical system is working properly, and the battery is put on a tender during winter storage, when is a good time to replace it? How long are you guys getting out of the AGM type sealed OE HD batteries?
I never got more then 3 years out of one that goes through winter cold
Warm weather add a year so your doing good
Once I change it I remove clean add star washers to all connections cover with dialectric grease .
Always seems the fresh battery will find that weakest connection

I replaced my 2000's original battery at 5 years/52k miles out of paranoia...I still have it and keep it charged up. I used it not long ago to jumpstart a vehicle with a weak battery.
+1. I swapped out my old battery at 5 years too. I was about to head to SC and didn't want to discover that I'd pushed my luck. It wasn't giving me trouble, I just retired it.Originally Posted by xxxflhrci

I still have my original battery in my 2000 Night Train! Been through 2 regulators though.
My Golf Swing is so bad, I look like a caveman killing his lunch.
First off..... Great to see you my friend!!! WOW...Originally Posted by Relic
I keep my battery on the tender as soon as it goes into the garage. It is now 6 winters old. I might get a new one in the spring if I see a sale on them. But I like the star washer idea, thanks wide. I have the heated gear and tender pig tails on the posts too!
It's not the years, it's the mileage!!
When seconds count, the cops are moments away!!
I think I will buy a new battery in the spring anyway. 5 years is an acceptable service life in my opinion, and I wouldn't want to risk an electrical system component being damaged or being stranded on account of being cheap and/or lazy LOL.
Is there a "core" charge from H-D when buying a new battery?
You're doomed. I was bragging about my 8 year old batteries in my 00 RK and 00 buick, both went out a week apart.Originally Posted by Relic
