    Radio Calibration

Hi. I just recieved a refurbished Harmon Kardon radio for my 07 Street Glide. It says it needs to be calibrated and has an annoying beepin sound. Can anybody tell me how to calibrate my radio? Thanks.

Everything I can find says it must be done at the dealer. Another special program deal.

The radio and security system has to be calibrated together and can only be done with the digital technician at the dealership. Shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes.

I'm always amazed at all of the proprietary crap they put on our vehicles. If you buy a new car it tells you when to service it. It forces people to go to the dealership and pay them to change your oil. Even if you do your own services you often need to dealership to reset your service message. It seem they get ya coming and going!

On my '06 Mercedes, has something called a Flexible Service System (FSS) counter in instrument cluster.

You can reset the FSS without special equipment -- if you know a few tricks. The FSS tells you when it's time for either an A, B, or C-service based on a number of variable other than just mileage and time -- including the way the vehicle is driven, specific oil type used, and input from various sensors.

This car doesn't even have a dipstick. It takes some getting used to.

I had a huge problem with Mercedes after I serviced my wife's 08 SLK 350. They would not tell me how to reset my Service Indicator message. I went all the way to the top and was repeatedly told that they could not tell me due to liability. I pointed out that it says in the owners manual to call the dealership for reset instructions. They didn't care. I joined a Mercedes web forum and found out the procedure. I called the manager of WI Simonson Mercedes in Santa Monica and informed him that they would never see another penny from me again. The Mercedes is a good car but I've been dicked around too many times by multiple dealerships. From now on I will be purchasing my vehicles used (Carmax) and service them myself. I'm sick and tired of big business sticking it to everyone. Sorry for the rant.
