So my brother has a 1991 Sportster - 1200. The day he bought it we replaced the battery, well he did with one from Advanced Auto or somewhere like that, anyhow, we had to add the acid solution and charge it, etc. I noticed the bike tends to spit out some acid from the battery (via the tube) after he rides the bike....is this normal? Do you think the bike is over charging the batter? I added the acid to the fill line and nothing more....I haven't put a meter on it yet - I was just curious if this was a side effect of these types of batteries or there is something wrong, I run sealed, gel batteries so I have never seen anything like that.
Thanks,

My Sporty's lead-acid type battery sweats out some fluid (when new or after topping it off), nothing unusual. Put a DC voltmeter across the terminals when running to be 100% sure![]()
I still got an 80 ironhead on the road. That means the generator still does the charging.
Harley Davidson Sportster Generator Free Help. To make sure the battery gets fully charged I use a voltmeter. The battery is fine when it reads a little over 12 volts. When it gets under that the starter will not turn.
