I have a 2002 sporty. It isn't getting electrical power. It ran fine yesterday, today it won't do anythin not turning over, no lights, nothing. I tested the battery and it fully charged. Help I'm stumped.
Sounds like one (or more) of the main circuit breakers has an issue or maybe a battery cable. Could be a grounding issue.
Break out the service manual, go to the electrical schematic, and start tracing your voltage until you find the disconnect![]()
Pull the seat off and look at the battery and poke around from there. Bike week one year, my positive cable broke right in my front yard! My electric start would not work for months and I was trying to find a new switch, trying to trace wires etc. and eventually figured out that the connector had broken off from the wire but it was still all in plactic so I coulnd't see it.....look at the obvious first, it's prob. something simple!
Good Luck
I still have an 80 Sportster with just electric start. Last month while starting it it only cranked once and I heard a click. Then it wouldn't even turn over. I thought some wiring between the battery and the starter was messed up. I had to look through a couple of Harley Davidson Sportster Chopper Repair Manuals and check out the starter. It turned out that the only ral problem was that the battery pads were real dirty. Just cleaned them and the battery cable with a steel brush. Now it cranks like it is supposed to.
Most likely it is the old sporty sickness....the positive battery cable. Normally the cable, over time, pulls out of its connector to the starter.
My Golf Swing is so bad, I look like a caveman killing his lunch.
