hi again, my shovel has an S&S 80" top end, in a '77 FX frame. I need to take out the heads to replace the valve rockers. I have it all stripped down and ready, but I notice that the rear cylinder has only about 1/8" clearance from the top of the valve cover to the frame. Am I going to be able to just pull the heads on this, or will I have to pull out the whole engine first? I've never done this before, but don't have the $$ to pay a pro right now, so have to fix it myself.
the fire ring/spiget on the top of your cylinders is .200in...and 1/8 of an inch is .125in...
are you sure, you only have an 1/8in clearence between the rocker and frame??
ya only need another .076in to get er to clear...LOL
Bikerinthenight,,,,,,, I`m the guy you hear at 4am finaly heading home, or to another after hours (insert smily face)
it's not even 1/8. I found a nail that's 1/8" thick and it won't fit thru. looks more like .100"
I have never had any problem with pulling the head on an 80 inch shovel
I let my mind wander.......It never came back
At 80" i'm not understanding the problem like HERITIC said. Otherwise fwiw unbolt the tranny mount bolts and the engine mount bolts, loosen or remove the drive chain and scoot the whole engine, trans and primary as an assembly forward an 1/4 " or so.
