    Front Wheel Set up

    Greetings,

I purchased another front wheel for my 95' Softail Custom. It appears to be the correct wheel with timken bearings etc. I would appreciate your advise for final install to make sure the bearings are preloaded correctly and proper measurement.

    Thanx

    Frt wheel bearings

If the wheel has the bearings installed it should have a sleeve between the inner races of the bearings. This sleeve is there to prevent excessive bearing preload. If it is a MOCO wheel just buy an install kit to get the proper spacers to properly position the wheel for the brake caliper and rotor to be aligned. The install kit will come with good instructions. A manual and parts manual are a good investment.

Thank you for your quick reply

Yes there is a spacer between the axle bearings. I have just placed the wheel on the axle and checking it for out of round and wheel play. It appears to be out of round about a sixteenth of an inch. Is this acceptable or not?

Are you looking at the tire tread or the rim. Tires can be out a little and be fine. If you are seeing side to side movement or out of round on the rim check the spokes for even tension and adjustment. There is an art to truing a wheel. Make sure the rotor runs true in the caliper. If in doubt have a pro look.
