    Rear Belt Replacement

Recently returned for a 3100 mile trip. Last day at Grand Coulee Dam, breakfast stop, I noticed a little damage to my rear drive belt. The belt had noticeable fraying on the side nearest the wheel and some surface damage on the out side of the belt. Damage area appeared to be about 6 inches in length. Checking inside the belt it showed several several teeth were missing approx 1/4 inch of material. Decided to change routes home, cut down a 400 mile ride to 250 miles. Arrived home without any problems.

Removal of the belt showed the every tooth had been cut, approx. 1/4 inch from the inside end, and every other tooth was missing a 1/4 piece of material. Some of the cuts were deep and had fracture the outer surface. No damage to the sprockets.

With 80k on the bike, original belt, I expected some difficulties in the removal of the swing arm but everything went very smoothly. New drive belt installed.

    you lucky turd......

The first belt I broke with my big stroker left me sitting beside the road....The second one got me home, but was missing 26 teeth.......between that, and three primary chains in three years, (the second destroyed the inner primary), I went back to a narrow rear tire, and let it spin

I decided that getting back home is a good thing
I let my mind wander.......It never came back

I was very lucky, both are in very good shape and did not require replacement.

    Wink belt

I had a few issues with my belt. The first was the guide in the small pully came off and i couldnt find where the noise was coming from(changed the primary chain and then the clutch bearing)then i found the problem(would only make a noise when doing around 30/40mph. The fun started when i got carried away cleaning my 89 fxr over the winter(2 hours and it was all over my garage floor. Ended up stripping the motor aswell, the swing arm was a bitch to get out(soaked it, heated it. in the end(4 weeks later)it saw it my way. took that long as i didnt want to damage anything. Wouldnt fancy doing that again in a hurry Made sure that feker was greased right up on assembly
    nothing under the kilt!!!
