Well, I started a new thread as I'm guessing everyone was tired of chasing the old one....took the bike down to a little shop called scooters in sanford fl, got a call the next day, fixed. Total cost: $45.00! The mechanic was not there when I picked it up but I did speak with him briefly on the phone. What he said makes no sense at all....I mean I understood what he was saying but can't figure out how it applies. He said all he did was adjust the plunger and that the plunger was not coming all the way back to pick up fluid. It was pushing a little but not coming "home" to pick up more fluid as it is pumped. Now, when I put the MS back on, attached the rod/plunger to the pedal there was no tension at all: I bolted it on no problem and the plunger would appear to me to be all the way back. Even if it wasn't, the way the rod attaches, the pedal might be to high or to low depending on the adjustment but the plunger would still be all the way back, right? Obviously he fixed it for nearly nothing but I can't relate what he said to what I worked on and I'd really like to understand this for next time!

Yippee..... man your damm brake's been keeping me awake nights
lol, congrats.
I almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day.
It was gettin' kinda long, I could've said it was in my way.
But I didn't and I wonder why, I feel like letting my freak flag fly

Actually I was enjoying the reading and trying to diagnose your problem. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you could get the brakes fixed. Ironhead Sportster Rear Brake Pads Repair just tells what a Harley Davidson owners manual says about fixing the break pads yourself. Oh, when you lock them brakes your ride could slide side ways.
