bikes been sitting in garage for 8-9 months, starts with choke and runes, but dies when choke is off, even after warm up it will not start without choke.

it was stored it with a full tank of premium gas, k&n air filter clean and petcock off..

any info or help will be appreciated

    Thanks,

    Welcome Norm

If you didn't burn the fuel out of the carb before storing it, you probably have clogged jets. I did that once and when I took out the jets they were clogged with what looked like clay but it had a corrosive green color to it. I think the fuel causes some kind of corrosive action to the brass jets.

That was my experience over 20 years ago. Hopefully you well get some other input from the more mechanical guys around here.

I almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day.
It was gettin' kinda long, I could've said it was in my way.
But I didn't and I wonder why, I feel like letting my freak flag fly

Could be you need new intake seals.

seat the pilot screw (counting the number of turns). back it all the way out and remove. take carb cleaner and put the straw in the hole and spray it out. reinstall the pilot screw and reseat it. back it out the same number of turns you counted earlier. should be fine. if not, i'm with relic on the seals.

Thanks guys, I'll be borrowing a H-D Softail Models Official Factory Manual today from a friend of a friend. I've done basic maintenance on the bike myself (oil change, spark plugs, etc.) If there is a call out for repairing or trouble shooting in the manual with page number please let me know?

You don't have to do the mods shown here but this will give you a better understanding of the carb . I have done these mods and it works great http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hd_cv_mods.htm

What junior said! You may even have to take the pilot jet out and soak it in Berrymans
or replace it altogether. I had to replace the pilot in a 2000 fxst.

That's a common problem with the fuels of today. The shelf life of todays gasoline sucks.
Next time you store it put some Stabil in the tank and run it for a while. Or drain the tank
and run the motor (on reserve) till it quits.

    2 cents..

The gas that is in the tank now is no good, especially if it's ethanol mixed. I would get the old gas out and put in some fresh for starters. Probably wouldn't hurt to pull the plugs and put in new ones too after that, so you start with a fresh, clean set, and go from there. Hopefully that's all it is, since you burned all the fuel out of the carb prior to shutdown.

all good suggestions, might also want to check for water in the gas, or in the bowl of carburetor
