I have a friend that wants to convert his 883 to 1200 , he said a "big bore kit" is recomended. What is the difference between that and a regular 1200 conversion kit?

they are the same. The 883 keeps the same crank and flywheel and they just put in bigger pistons. Sometimes they bore out the jugs(cylinders) and sometimes they put new jugs in. Its a cost effective hop up for the Sportster IMO. He'll have to rejet his carburetor.
There are also stroker kits for the Sporty. S&S used to sell a sidewinder kit with bigger bore PLUS longer stroke. This needs a new bottom end(new crank and connecting rods). These are monster motors when done right.

If he has the hop up bug he might as well do it cause he's going to anyway.
I did the 1250 kit,stage 2 port/polished heads,cams...etc... to me it wasn't worth the thousands that I spent....but I had the bug
