Okay! Finally picked up my bike from service... By the way they estimated the 40K service (I have 48K but the 40 is bigger so I said go for it) would be $500 to $600.
I said skip the shocks as I just changed the oil in them last year, skip the brake service and check, I'll replace them with the tires. Total price? $750...
Anyway, drove back and watched the tach / speedo relationship....
At 60 I'm turning 2750rpm, at 65 3000rpm, at 70 it's 3250rpm and at 75 it's 3500rpm. This is linear, so at 80 it's 3750rpm, 85 it's 4000rpm... and when following my buddies to Sturgis it's 90 at 4250rpm.
Now that we are armed with factual information (rare for me) I again seek the wisdom of you guru's, as I think dropping 6% by going up 2 teeth on the belt drive would be a good thing. That would put me at about 2800 rpm when I am cruising at 64 which is where I ride most of the time. At 60 I would be at a touch under 2600 rpm. And when really racking up miles doing 85, I'm at 3760 rpm.
And now get this... This is a hard one to believe, but I met a custom builder in a bar (go figure huh?) and we start talking bikes and I ask what he thinks of my gearing. He says why not stick a Baker 6 in it? I said most of my money is allotted to beer, and he says well he just bought some brand new Baker six speeds for $399 each, brand new in the box. Says the other local guy bought a dozen. I asked if he can get more and he said he'd check, but thinks he can. He said he'd install for $250. I'd say if this guy could come through with a new Baker 6 for $650 installed I'd be INSANE not to take that!! We'll see if he comes up with one.....

I sure like my 6 speed. I haven't checked the rpms but I think 6th is about where that 34t would put your 5th.
Mine is just the stock Harley 6 speed.
I almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day.
It was gettin' kinda long, I could've said it was in my way.
But I didn't and I wonder why, I feel like letting my freak flag fly
ultimately, that's what i'll have to do. 6 speed is best. if you get a baker, get an OD6, not a DD6...
