    Ultra Clutch Adjustment

My Ultra is hard to get into Neutral so I decided to adjust the clutch and cable. It still wants to jerk when I put it into gear and it's a bitch to find neutral without shutting it off when it's hot.

It's done it since it was new last year and now has 23k miles on it. Anybody got any good tips or should I just leave it like that.

did you adjust the pushrod first? loosen the cable all the way. pull the derby and you'll see an allen at the center of the clutch hub with a locknut. loosen it up. back it off, then turn it clockwise until it just touches. back it off 1/2 turn-3/4 turn. lock it down and replace the cover. then adjust the clutch cable until the lever has freeplay about the thickness of a nickel between the lever and the perch.

of course, if you run syn3 it will still be a bitch.

I run Red Line Syn Gear Oil in my tranny. It shifts smoothly and finds neutral great if rolling and much better from 1st when stopped.

I am running Syn3 in it. I did the adjustment like you said and I was wondering about how critical that just adjustment in till it touches is.

pushrod adjustment does two things- adjust for plate wear and put the ramp/balls setup in it's proper position. if it's off somewhat one way or the other the world won't end, but as with all things mechanical "optimum" is best.

not a syn3 fan. seen several bikes that had similar engagement issues resolved by switching to redline. jmho-

In case the other suggestions don't fix it, if you push the bike forward slightly while trying to shift into neutral it usually will go a little easier. It might be worth a try rather than shutting it off.

I almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day.
It was gettin' kinda long, I could've said it was in my way.
But I didn't and I wonder why, I feel like letting my freak flag fly
