Rear drive belt alingment to tranny

Just got done putting a new drivebelt on my 89fxrs and went to put the lower guard on and the rear tire is very close to the belt , i had put a rear fatboy wheel on it earlier the same size , the belt is rideing very close to the inside of the trans sprocket , seems if i could put a shim on the rear belt sprocket it would solve the problem or am i looking too far into this . Any help would be appreciated thanks

make sure that the wheel is adjusted for skew (r to l) correctly. it may simply be that the rh axle adjuster is too tight and is pulling the wheel sideways a bit.

on one of my bikes i put a 200 on the back with a 1-1/2" belt and run the edge of the tire 1/4" from the edge of the belt. keep in mind that the drive pulley has a crown and rolling the bike forward runs the belt to the outside, while rolling it back it goes to the inside (toward tire). if you don't have any interference, no prob.

wheel spacers on the correct side, right?

put my wheel spacers the same as i removed them but no mater if i role the wheel forward or backwards my belt stays on the tranny side , i have a little less than a 1/4 in between the tire and the belt and the wheel sprocket is a little more than a 1/4 to the swinarm im wondering if the motor alignment could have anything to do with my problem if i have one
    thanks for your reply doug

could be, but in my experience unless you let the assembly dangle in mid air when you took out the swingarm things should have gone back into place just fine. there is a procedure for your model lined out in the fsm. go through it and double check to be safe....
