96 FLHRI bike was backfiring while riding now wont start

i was coming home from work on the expressway and the bike starting to miss bad, when i got off i had a hard time keeping it running drove it to the first stop light and it quit it would start but when i gave it a little gas it quit finally i got it home, parked it and 2 hours later it wont start keeps backfiring. 2 weeks ago i replaced the coil because i started the bike and it ran for a minute and quit and couldnt get irt started again (no spark) but since the coil it has been running great. i guess i should tell you what i have! its a 96 Roadking EFI EVO. i am ready to sell it im so pissed off, now i have no clue of what could be wrong. Please any help would be great!!!

    No no dont sell it

Check the wires to the coil first as it was last thing you did.
    Check plugs also

good advice from wide , I would also have a look at the crank position pick up, and at your computer for the bike,
have you tripped any codes yet ?

i have not tripped any codes yet the only time the engine light came on was when it was running rough, i tried to start it up when i got home and i can smell gas and it kinda backfired then nothing. i was thinking the same thing about the crank sensor because it is only a magnetic pickup and i did have it out to look at it when i had problems the first time who knows by me wiggling it around it might have jared something, im at whits end. had the plugs out look great, wires to coil all looked good and metered good so i have no clue!!!

You really have to confirm that it is electrical and not fuel related, then as stated start tracking it back. I'd suspect the electronic pickup but have seen leaking intake gaskets with similar symptoms.
