    Unhappy 2004 Road King Transmission fluid Change Help

    I am changing my transmission fluid my 2004 RK I have more trouble filling the transmission correctly, I cant read the dip stick at all . Right now I have 20 oz. in does that seem right, if it does my stick says that its over when its hot. The book say 20 to 24 oz. At 20 do think I am safe Thanks guys if you can help me.

    Are you checking the trans fluid with the bike upright and level,,,,,, ?

    position of the bike is important, also are you screwing in the dip stick? or just putting it in to the treads

    if it was drained, then put your 20oz in and go riding you will be fine

    Your problem may be the same one I have, which is that the fluid is so damn clear you can't see it on the dipstick. What I do is, with bike upright and engine cold, insert dipstick until it rests on the threads (as H-D instructs), then pull it out and touch in flat against a newspaper so that the end of the stick aligns with an edge of the paper. The little oily strip on the paper shows the level, which you can compare to the mark on the dipstick. This may solve your problem.
