BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A Florida man has been arrested and charged with murder after police say he hacked Angel "Tun Tun" Gonzalez to death in a Brooks Street apartment and then cannibalized the body.
Police said the assailant later ate a portion of the victim's brain and one of his eyeballs at a local cemetery.

Smith is accused of killing the 43-year-old Gonzalez, who has been described by friends and family as a good-natured drunk who never hurt anyone.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, on Jan. 23 a female relative of Smith told police she was concerned after Smith had come to her home late at night on Dec. 15 complaining he had to "get blood on his hands," and was going first to Beardsley Park and then to his former home that was the apartment where Gonzalez was found. Before he left, Smith talked about Greek gods and called his family member Athena.
According to the affidavit, the following day Smith returned to the woman's home. The woman noticed Smith had blood on his pants, hands and a small ax and he wanted to take a bath.
The relative said Smith told her he had first gone to Beardsley Park but there was no one there so he went to the Brooks Street building, the affidavit states. He then went to sleep on the back porch.
But at some point, the affidavit continues, Gonzalez woke Smith and invited him to come in from the cold and share the apartment he was living in.
But once in the apartment, the affidavit states Smith began beating Gonzalez about the head and face with the ax.

He told his relative the blows to Gonzalez's head were so severe he was able to remove an eye from the victim's head along with a piece of the victim's brain which he put into a plastic bag.
He then walked to Lakeview Cemetery where his brother is buried and ate the brain and eyeball at his brother's grave site, according to the affidavit.
Smith boarded a Greyhound Bus on Jan. 20 and traveled down to Florida, where he was caught.
