The trader here showed us a Goldman Sachs forecast calling for a 10% pullback in the first quarter and then ending up the year at minus 2%. Similar to what my advisor from Ameriprise said. But if its down 10% at end of March and ends the year down 2% that means it must be 8% positive between April and December!!
But no one really knows. Which is why its gambling.
She has me in a lot of big cap dividend paying stocks because they won't tank as much if the market retreats in the first quarter.
When I start talking about shorting the market with an ETF she laughs. A risky bet for her.
More and more folks say it takes $2 million to retire in the U.S. now. Used to be $1 million.
What does it take to retire in Costa Rica?

I'm not here for a long time I'm here for a good time.
I've been doing good at keeping my money and in this market that's good enough.
I was shorting last year but I ended up coming out even just like the people going long.
If the market turns down, my bets will go short again but right now, all my bets are long. I'm still shorting 20 year treasury bonds but that is really a long bet.
I almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day.
It was gettin' kinda long, I could've said it was in my way.
But I didn't and I wonder why, I feel like letting my freak flag fly
As far as retiring in Costa Rica, it costs $2000 / month for a couple to live very comfortable.
You could easily live on $1000/ month too if you were on a tight budget.
There are a lot of cheaper places to live but I don't need to live cheaper.
There's a good chance I will buy a piece of land in Costa Rica in the next few years. And I suspect it will be a very good investment even if I don't do anything with it.
I've been attracted to Costa Rica since I was about 12 years old and that never changed. I finally made it 10 or 15 years ago. Jackie loves it and would be happy if I quit my job and moved there today.

Yeah most of it is blocking and tackling. But I do like to find the hot stock once in awhile.

I've been reading about a lot of different stategies. There's a guy named Paul Merriman that has a buy and hold strategy using ETFs that I like. And I like ETF sector rotation (long and short). And I like to mess with ETF options using a small percentage of my savings.
So, I trade quite a bit. More like weekly than daily tho.
